I'm actually quite pleased! I loved Doctor Who Series 1 -4 but ever since Matt Smith came in and Stefan Moffat took over by fandom faded and I've barely watched series 5 and 6 but tonights episode was fantastic. The ending was briliant and next weeks looks really good!

I think I've spent too long living in the past of the earlier series - I still tell anyone who will listen about how much I miss Rose and Donna and the end of Series 4 - but I hope I can look to the future now and enjoy Doctor Who again!

If only there were more like you.
Now you must go and watch every episode since The Eleventh Hour!!!

Does anyone else still miss the earlier series though? I just think that series 2 and 4 have been the best yet and I loved the first three companions and I want them to come back - even though I doubt they will!

For me Series 1 was sensational but the others had high and low moments and just weren't the same. Nine, Rose and Jack were great together but the rest couldn't match them, though Donna was far preferable to Martha. Despite not being Amy's biggest fan (though I love Rory) Series 5 and 6 have been consistently amazing all round and Matt is simply incredible, all the previous Doctors rolled into one but unique in his own way as well.

The show has been going since 1963, there have been 11 Doctors over that time. Things change in this show and you just have to move with the times and try not to get too invested with one character otherwise its too difficult to accept a new character or Doctor as i realised when the ninth doctor left.

He's a good Doctor, but he's not my Doctor.

Everyone has their Doctor and by that i mean, its the particular incarnation that makes the show feel so special to him.

I liked Nine because there was something quite grandfatherly and stupid about him. "This daft old face."

I didnt originally like Ten because I didnt want Nine to change, but after The Girl In The Fireplace, Ten got better and better for me and by Human Nature, he was my Doctor.

I don't think they'll ever be a Doctor that will surpass Ten for me. As good as Matt Smith is, he's just too.. argh!

No. And they weren't 'the first three companions'. There were at least two dozen before them.

I do, David Tennant was my Doctor, and I think series 4 was the best. But still, I think Matt's great in the role

Though perhaps leave the companions, or at least for a long time. Though references from time to time would be nice!

Well they are to me, I'm too young to have seen the older series.

Then you're at a disadvantage which is unfortunately causing you to view the show from a slightly skewed perspective. Change has been a part of the series for five decades. It's what Doctor Who is all about.

Nope. Sorry but Who is always, when you get right down to it, about change. The only thing I really 'miss' when it comes to this show is that we never really got a chance to see McCoy's Doctor hit his stride on TV (though thanks to Big Finish we've had it on audio adventures).

As for the David Tennant era... I was glad to see the back of it. Oh don't get me wrong I enjoyed it well enough and David was a good Doctor (but, then, there's never been a bad one IMO) but the whole Rose nonsense just ended up being a millstone around the show and sucked a lot of the fun out of it. Hand on heart, 10's regeneration was the ONLY time I've actively wanted a Doctor to move on and the "I don't want to go" whinge feels so out of place to me it actually hurt my overall opinion of the Tenth Doctor. Series 2 was particularly weak for me with only Girl in the Fireplace and Doomsday being great episodes.

A lot of the "classic" series is very good, with some great Doctors and companions and well worth checking out if you have the time and the will. I'm sure if you asked, people on here would give you some good recommendations to start with. But, although "nu-Who" is a direct continuation of the old series, most of the time you can easily get by starting from Ecclestone onwards. However, there are often lines of dialog and other bits and pieces going on in the new series that you would probably miss if you hadn't seen any of the old series.

Not really, no. I enjoyed series 1, though I'm not a Christopher Eccleston fan and didn't particularly rate the Ninth Doctor, thought Ten & Rose were better together, am one of the few who quite liked Martha, thought Donna was great, especially towards the end of her run, hated the specials and throughout it all loved the occasional Sarah Jane cameo reappearance and Captain Jack.

But I've really loved the past 2 series so much more. I think Amy and Rory are both brilliant characters, and over the last series especially I've really started to think that Matt is my Doctor, he's just fantastic.

In series 1 to 4, you'd have the average episode, the rubbish ones, the enjoyable finals and then that one episode that stood out as superb, and Who at its absolute best. TIP/TSP in series 2 were a brilliant highlight in an otherwise average series. HN/FOB/Blink was series 3s. SITL/FOTD was series 4s.
Series 6 however has been on another level all together. 6 episodes of it so far have been on the superb level, which is a huge achievement. If you're only just getting over Tennant now (and heaven knows why) I can see why series 6 has made you.

Matt SMith is what really shwoed me WHY i love the show. I liked re-watching classics when i was younger. RTD had a good run...but i always felt "tired" with it and not everything paying off really for me.

Eccleston was great and Tennant was....ok! But The Eleventh Hour....WOAH! from those first moments of Matt swinging outside of a destroying TARDIS...THAT was what made me love the show beyond belief!

Matt Smith will be and always will be MY doctor and I just love how 11,Rory,Amy,River are Team TARDIS and the best lineup since 4,Sarah Jane, Harry and Brigadier! definitely! and best linup ever IMO of course.

Series 5 was phenomenal, Series 6 has set the show at its absolute peak. Cannot wait for next Saturday.

Personally I loved the chemistry between 9, Rose & Jack.

& I really like 11.

I liked 3 as well.

I hated 6 (though like his Big Finnish audio stories )

With the others I liked particular stories rather than particular doctors.
