Craig and Sophie weren't married

I've seen a few comments that they were married, and no threads like this. So I thought I'd make one

I also was confused on first viewing...

I assumed they were married, but maybe they've just been living together as so many couples do these days.

However, they have become parents, so will they now decide to get married, and if so, will the Doctor will be best man? Or perhaps he has already been best man at that future wedding during his 200 years of off screen life. Timey wimey.

In the episode Craig said they'd thought about it but decided it was only a piece of paper, so who knows. But my gut feeling is not

No. Craig was talking about himself and the Doctor (who Val assumed were a couple) not himself and Sophie.

The way I saw that was that Craig misunderstood Val and thought she was talking about him and Sophie being married. Hence his shocked face when he realised she thought he and the Doctor were an item.

He thought she was talking about him and Sophie, not him and the Doctor hence his reaction after the penny dropped.

Some confusion here I think. Having watched this again I think it is quite clear that Val is referring to Craig and The Doctor, but Craig is referring to himself and Sophie. Therefore Craig and Sophie are not married.

Yep, that was the whole point of the comedy with Val assuming from the first that they were a couple, the Doctor missing the point of 'partner' rather than 'companion' etc, right up to the part when she talks about 'two daddies' and the penny finally drops.

Like I said I missed it myself the first time and enjoyed the episode a lot more when I got it the second time. Very cleverly done.

I don't think the script was clear enough at the 'piece of paper' scene for everyone to pick up on it the first time (including the Digital Spy synopsis writer) and I saw it mistaken on other threads so I made this one

The BBC will get a letter from me. This kind of behaviour should not be encouraged.
