ipad 3G - what tariff?

I'm getting a ipad 3G tomorrow. What phone tariff is best? I want occasional use when I'm not home. I have BT broadband at home, so I think I get OpenZone/FON access outside? So it's for the odd times there's no wifi in coffee shops etc - browsing, not working.

I'm thinking Orange daily £2, but I'll have to know in advance that I'll need it.

Can anyone suggest what might be best for a casual user? Thanks

Do you have a smartphone you could tether it to instead when you need 3G? That's what I do. Saved spending an extra £100 on a 3G iPad plus additional data costs.

Get a prepay micro-sim from T-Mobile: the sim is free, but if you put £20 on it, that will let you buy 6 months internet for the £20. It's unimited browsing, but with a limit of 500mb of streamed data per month. That should be plenty for occasional out-and-about use.
You'll need to buy the internet booster for it. The easiest way is to put it into an iphone and texting "6monthweb" to 441. If you go into a Tmobile shop, the staff should help set it up.

I bought the ipad 3g last week and went for the PAYG Sim from 3. 3GB, lasting 3 months, for £20.99. Happy with the speed of connection so far.

The internet Boosters on T-Mobile are like the O2 Bolt-Ons: extras you buy out of your credit. To buy one, you put the credit on the SIM, and text "6monthweb" to 441, making sure there's £20 credit there first. (Put it into an iphone 4 to do this) then put it into your iPad.

I used the same SIM (after cutting it down in a SIM punch) but I paid £11 for mine on Amazon. Keep an eye out for promotions.
