Of course they will be and imagineably twice with a boxing day episode for some. Channel 4 have mentioned the idea of a late night Hollyoaks christmas special on boxing day.

Eastenders usually do two episodes and Corrie and Emmerdale usually have hour specials

The BBC are showing a 2 hour episode of casualty and holby city merged!

So I think we'll only get one episode of EE this year! - the schedules will be full. And they (soaps) do not like to be on at the same time as their rivals, especially on xmas day!

normally you'd get EE, the Emmerdale (1hour), then Corrie (1 hour), then EE, and then Only Fools and horses Xmas special!

so how will they fit in a 2 hour slot of the BBC's medical dramas?

Yeah, I wouldn't have thought they'd be on Christmas Day either. They're bound to be on primetime but there's no way they'll be the BBC's main programme at Christmas. It's the same with The Bill - Xmas Eve or Boxing Day maybe, but not Xmas day.

Normally it's:

6.30pm - Eastenders
7.00pm - Emmerdale
8.00pm - Corrie
8.30pm - Eastenders ep.2
9.00pm - Corrie ep.2

Although I think last year Corrie was on for an hour, then Ee's 2nd episode was at 9pm.

No WAY will Casualty/Holby be on during all that. I'd be stunned if it was and the BBC would be very stupid...

Its on the BBC press office site!- about a Casualty and Holby City crossover!
and they do mention a 2 hour special on xmas day - this has also been debated about on Talk Walford too!

Although I do not see how they can schedule it in!

Well maybe it will be quite late at night then, because at some point they'll be up against Corrie and they won't want that. I still don't believe it will happen, not on Xmas Day..

maybe they'll re-think and put it on boxing day instead!

Although it wouldn't be the first time the BBC have scheduled programmes to coincide with each other!

Yeah well all of the beebs most popular sitcoms have now finished - so they won't have any scheduled this year - i don't see an all about me or my hero christmas special.

Also isn't there going to be two boxing days this year, the traditional one on Sunday (which is a cheat because most people will have the day off) and then an official one on Monday.

This is abit off the subject topic, but i hope the pubs get their 24hr licenses by then.

Also ITV are showing a Midsomer Murders Xmas special on Xmas Day at 9pm. They said they plan to make it an annual event and it's a pretty big ratings winner, so the BBC will have to put Casualty against either Corrie or Midsomer Murders so either way it will be tough for them.

EastEnders will not be scaled back in favour of Casualty and Holby I don't think. Xmas Day is a war of the soaps and EastEnders has won the ratings war many years previous with their storylines and two part episodes. Corrie is always on for an hour, usually between the EastEnders episodes, before that Emmerdale starts usually at the end of the first EastEnders episode. The second EastEnders epi is usually half eight or nine.

Whether it be Saturday or Doomsday that Xmas falls on, you can bet the soaps will all be out in force. This is good because it means we get Corrie, EastEnders and Emmerdale on Xmas Eve aswell, yay!

There will be (at least one, maybe two or three?) new episode(s) of the Vicar of Dibley at Xmas/New Year

I think the big question we should be asking is what Dramas are we going to see this XMAS?

I think once a corrie character will die on XMAS day...
