Iconic puddings of the decade
Hope you can help. We are just starting to plan a party for next year's Diamond Jubilee, and the food theme is iconic dishes that sum up each decade that the Queen has been on the throne. My area is puddings so I'm looking to identify (and eventually make) deserts that were the typical 'dining out' favourites in Britain from the 1950s to the present day.
For the Sixties I was thinking of a trifle, for the Seventies a Black Forest Gateau, and tiramisu for the Eighties. Does anyone have suggestions for the Fifties, Nineties, Noughties and the present decade? I'm also open to better suggestions for the decades that I've already covered. Thanks in advance. |

The Fifties were when Americans started their influence on our diet..Things like Knickerbocker Glory and Banana splits were all the rage.
Or something like this as the Queen was coronated in 1953. http://fiftieswedding.com/blog/wp-co...1950s-cake.jpg |

I've got several of my grandmother's Good Housekeeping cookery pullouts from the 50s - there are lots of multi coloured jelly desserts with tinned peaches and glace cherries and so on, and lots of steamed suet puddings.
