Seems that at least a few times a month when I go for a takeaway, I make sure to say "no salad or mayo/relish/whatever please" as I prefer a cheese slice and I like to put my own sauce on, usually BBQ - yet there's always one braindead person who works in these places who WITHOUT fail puts a load of soggy lettuce and what seems like a whole bottle of mayo on my burger! What I wanna know is, why they do this, why automatically put salad on even when the customer specifically requests NOT to have it?! It just doesn't make sense to me. Surely if someone wants salad and/or mayo then all they have to do is ask? It costs the company money too, as I always make sure I get the burger replaced. Can't imagine their boss being too happy about that! Anyone else had a similar experience?

There are more important things in life to be upset over surely?

If you ask for it, they put it on, it's their error. Either remove it yourself or complain.

If you say no lettuce or mayo or whatever then no they shoudn't put it on. Unless they're a bit thick - or deaf!

I wouldn't say it upsets me, it's just annoying really and seems to indicate a lack of common sense among some fast food workers. On the contrary, it's the company who are losing out as I always ask for a replacement, I just wondered why they do it?

You carry BBQ sauce around with you? What a strange chap you are.

This happens to my granddad all the time. If he asks for no relish, he gets no garnish and has a furious argument with some spotty kid over the very important difference between relish and garnish. Sometimes, to mix it up a bit, he asks for no garnish and ends up with no relish, and...yeah, same again really. Sometimes I think he is deliberately mumbly and vague just to spice things up with a good-going rant when things go wrong.

No lol I mean I either use the sachets of sauce if I'm at KFC, or put my own sauce on at home if I'm getting dinner from the local independent takeaway.

Exactly! I wouldn't like to be in their shoes when the boss finds out they've been wasting company food cos they can't follow simple customer requests!

Maybe next time try telling them to "hold the salad". Lettuce know what happens.

Agree with OP. This is far too commonplace.

It's like at Subway when they ask if you want any sauce, and you say "BBQ please", and then they UNLOAD half a bottle of the stuff on to your sub. Your sub ends up tasting entirely of BBQ sauce plus you end up wearing half of it and then your hands stink.

Less is more when it comes to condiments.

What really throws them in our Chicken Hut is if I ask for two chicken fillet burgers and chips, one burger with the standard lettuce and mayo and one without those two. One's for my daughter but I put ketchup on mine. Either I still get it in both or on neither. It's not hard to understand, surely!!!

To be honest it doesn't bother me. If I'm having a burger from my local Kebab Emporium then it's a ½lb Garlic Burger with all the trimmings. Goes down a bloody treat.

Perhaps the OP could get a job at said fast food outlet and show them how it should be done.

Credit for the workers for getting up every day to do a poorly paid, thankless job.

The actual solution is simplicity itself...

Don't buy burgers from vans / cafes / kebab shops.

See how easy that was? and all that stress saved.

Well of course, credit must go to most of them! However, they're paid to do a service and surely if the customer makes a simple request for a plain burger/kebab then it isn't too hard to get it right?

OP I have the same problem! I like to eat plain food so I always ask for my burger plain. I don't understand why McDonald's put relish on by default, surely that's more effort fussing about putting extra stuff on the burger. They should start off having the burgers plain and then that way the customers can specify what the want on their burger i.e. gerkins, lettuce.

Well, that would be the common sense solution, unfortunately common sense seems to have all but disappeared in Britain these days!

Probably because the majority of their customers aren't fussy buggers and like the burger as it comes.
