I personally think they are better because you can modify just about all of the software. There are no current Android 3.0 roms because the source code isn't open (if it ever will be). I am going to opt for the Vega 2 (when available) or hannspad and not go for the Galaxy 10.1. You probably think I am crazy but I like to be able to mod and have the source code.

In fact, I have just noticed that the Honeycomb source is coming out soon...

I am now considering the Liberty Tab

I'm using Vegacomb 3.2 9n with the Vega and it is very good. If the Vega 2 works half as good with a proper port of Honeycomb and better specs then it will be an Ipad beater.

I prefer Android because you can modify the opsys and install any apps you want.

I don't understand your question, there are Android 3.x tablets out there

I recently picked up one of these (for a lot less than the price shown here I am relieved to say) and it is an absolute pile of crap.

I dont think the hardware is an issue, the tablet itself is a nicely put together and responsive item, I just think Android 2.1 is an absolutely hopeless piece of software. Works fine on my partners Samsung Galaxy phone, but is useless on the tab. Have huge problem getting online, getting web pages to open, cant use the android market apps store.

The only reason I have binned it is because it works fine as a book reader/Kindle substitute. but that really wasnt what I wanted a tablet for.

Yes, but he wants the source code as he believes he can improve it.

He's also told us in the past that he's going to set up his own search engine, start a social networking site (running off a netbook and an ADSL connection) and that he's working on his own fork of Android and will be opening his own Android app store soon (presumably also hosted on the netbook)...

A bit harsh. Sorry for being too optimistic .

I didn't say I could improve it. I just like it to be open source.

I think 2x is better for tablets designed for 2x.

I had Vegacomb on my Vega but went back to Corvus5. It's not as pretty but everything works now. Vegacomb is a terrific achievement but it's largely cosmetic.

I think 2.X is suited around the 7 inches and below range, where as 3.X is more suited to the 9/10 inch range.

I thought that officially google will only certify 3.x on 10" devices with 1280x800 display or better ?

The 8" Archos 80 G9 is 8" is 1024X768 and on 3.2.

Obviously 2.x is for a more native 800X480 and in fact is probably best for existing phone apps

It's hacked, It's very easily done. I think Archos provide the package on AppsLib (there own store).

What made you think 3.2 does not come with market as standard across the board?

The only compromise seems to be that the improved display is not glass covered or IPS. ANd whilst 1028x768 is better suited to the web than 1024x600 the 4/3 screen does mean movies are a compromise.

I was replying to c4rv who wondered if Archos' Android 2x tablets came with Market.

Of course Honeycomb has Market. I just wonder when the source will be available...
