I've just seen the stills for Adele's new video - what is the point of it? Its not going to get Number 1 just because of a new video.

Shouldn't she be releasing a video for Rumour Has It instead, or whatever her new song is? I just cant see the point- anyome want to enlighten me?

It's more for the US than here... SLY is currently #1 on iTunes over there.

Yeah the song is only beginning to be massive over there so it makes sense.

I think it's all in the name of promotion. Some songs have more than one video, usually for different audiences in different countries. A bit strange to be honest but that's how things go.

i would agree it would be for the us market. she has already reached the #1 spot there with this single. although, there is buzz that it may return to the summit there. apparently, she shot the video in paris.

Until she sang SLY at the VMAs last month, most over here in the US had never seen her standing up. And those who somehow missed the RITD video thought she was black.
Outside of that one video there has been minimal exposure over here for this era.
She sings SLY on national tv, just like the Brits, and boom it goes to number one. Releasing a video for the song will bring it back to number one, continue to sell the album and nurse it through the holidays. I just heard it on the radio for the first time today. That must sound strange to you guys in the UK. I hear radio practically killed it over there.
I think it was a good move. Nice to see XL spend a little money. Hopefully they already have a video for SFTTR in the can.

I think it's a good move. She needs to expand her videography anyway.

I hope she does one for Set fire before the year is out.

They always needed a music video for it, as the song will likely be added to loads of permanent TV playlists, and a live performance with background sounds isn't the best type of video.

Also, the song has been around for a while in the US, its only just recently gone to radio though.

It's been quite messy on this front, but I hope they do get round to music videos for her singles.

Not just because it's an interesting thing to have, but nowadays YouTubing songs is a staple move and to not have proper videos of her singles isn't the best idea in terms of longevity.

Kind of a shame that they never bothered with a video for SLY (or SFTTR) in the months it was dominating here, but did it for the US market within weeks.

XL obviously don't spend money unless they deem it necessary. They didn't (rightly IMO) deem an official video for SLY in the UK necessary (the unofficial youtube upload of the Brits performance is at over 46 million views alone. That video was free!). But as 3.6 million Americans already have SLY on the album and Moves Like Jagger has proved an amazing seller I think that's why we have the official video now. It's working already even though the video isn't out yet, she's back to #1 on US iTunes and will probably return to #1 on the Hot100 next week. I just can't imagine the amount of youtube views this video will get. And i can't believe how they kept this so secret. Surely someone saw her strolling round Paris in the early hours with a film crew??

When I think about it she doesnt have many music videos. Would be nice to see what direction they go in for SLY for the video though.

Its like Hometown Glory.. never had an official video but lots of her live performances of it are over the million mark on Youtube etc

IIRC she made a video for every single from '19'. Certainly Hometown Glory got an official video:

I like the fact she can sell millions WITHOUT videos. It just goes to show how amazing her talent is that her talent sells on its OWN.

Over here, Adele's brits performance made the song gain popularity, whereas over there they probs prefer to make a music video for the song.

the video has arrived. quite stunning visually and leaves the viewer in no doubt that it was shot in paris! she is still holding on to the #2 slot in the us. so i wonder if this will push the song back up to the top?

Oh for goodness sake! Love the Way You Lie, for example, sold millions without a music video aswell. It's not a big deal. Lots of songs and artists do it. Even Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Britney Spears have sold millions of a song (worldwide) before releasing a music video...

Anyway, as others have said, it's for the US. Infact, now is probably the PERFECT time to release a video, if anything!

People need to remember that Someone Like You was originally intended to be the 3rd single in the UK. Her management we're prepared for it to go to #1 back in February. They were obviously planning to do the main promotion campaign for the song in the summer, hence why we didn't get a video.

What a rubbish video! the scenery is nice but it is so boring and dull, they could of put some really decent shots of Paris in it without being cliche but they just decided to film her walking around. The audio doesnt match the video either.

Thank you. People are getting a tad over-excited about Adele's Ground-Breaking-No-Gimmicks-Real-Artist-Musical-Revolution™.

Didn't know that about SLY being single #3. Do you know what #2 was supposed to be? SFFTR?
