SB> The facts
I have seen many fan sites for sb, and they all seem to blame NBC for its failure. So i thought i would share some facts for you:
1. NBC and SPELLING-TV both owned the show. When they sold it to other countrys, NBC took a 33% share of the profit. 2. Focus groups revealed that many of the key-charactors were boring! and many of them were wrien out as a result. 3. The actor who played the 1st cole, was sacked cos focus groups found him to be un-attractive! 4. The same focus group said the 1st theme tune was to boring. [it did not last long] 5. Aunt Bette was only suppossed to appear a few time per month. However focus groups reveaed that she was the 4th most popular charactor on the show, ben-1st, meg-2nd & annie 3rd. The show stayed at the bottom of the ratings throughout its 3 years. The fact it lasted so long clearly proves NBC gave it a chance. It did not work cos most USA daytime viewers are older woman who prefer their soaps to be like B&B, GH & Y&R. Poor sb had no chance. The show was sold to 27 counrtys around the world. |

I'd thought i'd share another fact:
Sunset Beach was originally shot on film, but the focus groups said that "It looked too much like a movie" so they switched to Videotape early in the show's run. |

Oh i have liked the current look of the show
![]() NBC did give it a chance so its not really fair to blame them. I mean they axed Another World (which had been on for over 30 years!) before the axed SB! |

Well the first Caitlin lasted a long time and judging by today she was crap. Paula is the most boring character in the history of soaps. I don't know why they wrote Tiffany out, as she has definite promise. It would be great to see her get with Sean only to discover she's Gregory's daughter. Annie's mother should have turned up. The doctor woman should never have been created. She's just annoying.

I think the 1st Caitlin is a better actress than the one they eventually settled with, though less attractive naturally.

Same here kyresa - Cole and Father Fit (Antonio) were definitely two of the higlights of the show for me!
Thats a point though - when does Cole #2 first appear onscreen? I agree about the 2nd Caitlin too - in my opinion she was the most wooden actor/actress in SB. |

One more fact was that the show was going to be cancelled in november 1998 but because of its huge UK fan base they kept it going for another year (*well done UK) hoping the us audiences would warm to it but with no such look and it was cancelled in november 1999 and finished in the us in January 2000

It actually finished on December 31, 1999. What a great millenium gift that would have been

Does anyone know how well SB is doing in the ratings at the moment? I hope its doing really well as that would hopefully mean the entire set of episodes will be shown.
