It will retail for $199 in the US. That is very good value.
I don't know what their Silk browser is like though. |

Just following it.
It is highly possible that they have licensed Opera Mobile or maybe even Skyfire. £200 I imagine here. |

I was more impressed with the Kindle Touch at $99, that I'll definately buy, whenever it actually is available here.

The Kindle Touch seemed more a gimmick to me. Touch doesn't really add anything to the Kindle IMO.
The new, cheaper Kindle is available for pre-order in Amazon UK though for £89 (because we don't get the ad-subsidised version). The Kindle Fire looks good though, and is definitely priced right. It might even tempt me, although i still don't know what a tablet would be useful for. Might wait for v2 though and hope there's a mic and camera included, and CyanogenMod gets ported onto it. |

It is just an IPS screen so good indoors, not so great out.
Makes it very decent value though as does that 'developer castrating' free APP per day. Possible lack of camera, mini HDMI and SD card slot eat into value. An SD slot I'd value the most. + The Amazon cloud hype is a sort of acknowledgement of how slow ARM CPUs are. Though like Opera it may improve the unmentioned battery life. Considering Apple just lost their appeal to patent multi touching a screen, its quite funny to see Amazon highlight it several times. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but....
No additional storage? Amazon content only - cannot connect to the regular Android market? |

1024 X 768 TN 4/3 aspect ratio screen, but decent viewing angles. Mini HDMI slot 720p encoding front camera MicroSDHC slot, USB host and slave. Accepts a 3G dongle. (not sure if just theirs) Built in GPS, g-sensor, compass and mic. 10 hour battery. So which is better? |

Amazon wins for brand name.
I've not seen either but as a computer and even as a car gadget the Archos is streets ahead. The Amazon tablet is certainly for those with their head in the clouds. + OK it is Fired up for the US. I've no idea what the production run is but if it is a sell-out for November 15 then it's 2012 before it arrives here. |

Not interested then, it's going to be very limited in my opinion. A decent eReader and internet browser maybe, but that's about it.
It's aimed at ordinary people who probably don't even know Android Market exists. Android barely got a mention in the presentation. This is an "Amazon tablet". |

BTW what is this Vibrant Color IPS screen. A fancy word for LCD or something better/closer to eInk? The cheapest model for $79? I could buy 2 of these for what I paid for my 3G Kindle I have now. Although I do wonder how comfortable it will to make purchases from it without a proper keyboard.

I watched the video....
http://www.amazon.com/gp/mpd/permalink/m4PZXKPGK3SQB/ It's very much focusing on content rather than specs. It's a device that will enable people to buy more stuff from Amazon. |

No additional storage
No connectivity No Android market Only 7" screen. UK Cost likely to be at lest £200 I fail to see why people are excited about this. Hanspree, Archos, Advent all have better tablets at a lower price point and work fine with Amazon as well. You wan cloud storage, how about dropbox or skydrive. Both offer 25GB for free which will be plenty for most people. I guess Amazon have to try and leverage their brand for all its worth and I'm sure there will be plenty of buyers. The type who would normally buy Apple, I can't see this hitting regular android tablet sales much. |

Amazon Fire is a good idea - it'll appeal to those who have been clamouring for a colour Kindle. However, it is rather expensive for what it is. As noted, you can already purchase equally powerful tablets with HDMI and SD slots etc. for less - and the Amazon suite of Apps work on them already.
The Amazon Kindle Fire is aimed at people who either don't realise that other things can run Amazon apps or are for those who want an all-in-one Amazon Device. The price over here will be crucial. $200 does not mean £200... |
