A few years ago I uploaded a tune to a Nokia phone and made it the ringtone. Although the tune is still on the phone (as a playable aac file) it seems to have disappeared as a ringtone. Unfortunately I can't remember how I did it in the first case! Any useful suggestions?

when I want a new ringtone on my Nokia 2760 I use my CD player & use the record option on the phone, then assign it as a ringtone , Very easy to do & can have what tune I want

How exactly do you do this? I'm talking about a Nokia 6303 Classic & I don't think that it has any sort of record option.

If the tune is still on the phone I don't see the problem, just set it as the ringtone. Or do you mean you've tried that and get an error?

my vague recollection is that you go to the rintone setting and select something to the effect of 'other' or 'from gallery'

Ah, but that's precisely the problem. How exactly do I set it as a ringtone. I've tried all the available menus, tried right clicking on commands and I still can't find a way of doing it. I haven't got any error messages because I can't even see any means of trying to make it a ringtone.

So let me rephrase the question. I have a tune (aac file) on the phone that I can see on the Media Player. What exactly are the menus and sub-menus that I need to access in order to make it a ringtone?

Finally solved, more by luck than judgement! I connected the phone again to a USB port on my PC. For some reason I finally managed to see the Gallery folder so I could copy the file from the Music folder & put it in the Gallery ringtone folder. It was then easy to set the ringtone to it.

I think (if memory serves) there are four ways of assigning a ringtone. In settings use the ringtone option, or profile if you only want to use it in a specific profile.

Or in the Gallery file manager, highlight the file Press Options and then select the option to use as ringing tone.

Or in the Media Player do the same thing. It doesn't matter where the file is as long as you allow the phone to rebuild the library.

Now that I've managed to do it I'm not too concerned - Mrs T has had the ringtone for the past 3 or 4 years and now we've got it back I'm sure she'll keep it for the next 3 or 4 years.

However, out of interest I might look at the Media Player bit, although I'm pretty sure that in the past few days I'd tried every combination of button pressing without success!
