So with Amazon unveiling their Kindle Fire today (although no details about a UK release) , does anyone think Apple will drop the price of iPad 2 ?

No. Amazon's tablet is in no way a direct competitor to the iPad.

Possibly the US price, no real point doing it elsewhere.

It very much depends on what a prospective buyer is looking for. If they already have Apple stuff, or purchases through iTunes, then possibly not.

Apple do not drop the price of their products.

They replace them with newer versions.

Its certainly in the same domain as the iPad and thus a direct competitor.
Other Android tablets are computers and thus don't compete in the same direct way.

With the rumour that the iPod classic is no more it may be the era of hard drive iPods, and possibly even an iPad too.

They call them price adjustments rather than drops or cuts. They sometimes do them on their computers, when the do a in-year refresh. So, like you said, it's a price adjustment on a new version (even if it's a minor change) rather than on an existing product.

Those old version are still available with a price cut if you know where to look.
