I like it, I think it's working quite well. Cruel I know, but: i'm watching this and thinking... remember when Kat & Alfie were thin? I know she's up the duff and he's eaten all the pies Walford has to offer, but for one of the former supposed sexiest couples in soap, this is like watching a recreation of the 'classic' if vomit-inducing Frank n' Pat bunk-up in Spain (but with thankfully less flesh on the flash). They are just enormeous. No wonder Spencer & Nana are so slim, they don't get a look in when dinner's served. Ooh, just realised, no Spencer tonight. Thank god for small mercies.

I think this episode was really good well acted and well wrote people just seem to be looking for whatever problem they can find when it comes to ee instead looking at the good points. I mean sorry to compare it but Emmerdale earlier was no were near as good as what EE has been tonight.

All I can think of is Den and the late lamented Big Ron, and quite frankly the mental picture is not pleasant

Its not really somehting I like when they do these kinds of episodes all set in the same kind of location ie bedrooms. I like it when there out and about on the square etc. |

I am actually having a panic attack right now. I MISSED the whole episode (except the opening five minutes), and I have been informed that there was lots of Dennis snogging-ness.
I cant believe I missed it. Ah well, I'll watch at 10 on BBC3

I actually quite enjoyed it. It was like a calm episode, last minute nerves for Sam, Kat and Alfie just whittering away and Dennis walking into Sharon's bedroom for a chat. Then mid way through the episode, Kat and Alfie's split has been set in motion, Shannis emerged once again and Sam, even though we all thought she might have been on the right track, was convinced Andy the Panda is "the one" and that Peggy will love him. Also Martin and Sonia but they were a tad pointless in it all really I thought.
A nice build up to the madness that will unfold on Thursday and Friday, all hail Queen Peggy of Walford! lol |

okay I havent watched EE in a while, so I was a bit confused by tonights eppie. can anyone help?
1. What was the point of Kat and Alfie? Cos I thought they were starting to move on, then suddenly,m kinda out of the blue, Alfie makes some joke about having an affair with Pat, then accuses Kat on giving some bloke the come-on. It just seemed a bit out of place. Is this the build up to Kat leaving? 2. Why oh why oh why did Andy order Sam to put on her wedding dress then order her to take it off? I didnt get this...... 3. I thought Dennis and Sharon were supposed to sleep together? (Or have I missed that storyline?) Cos although the scene with them was good, it seemed a bit of an anti-climax. They kiss pasionatly, then Dennis climbs back into bed with Zoe and Sharon blubs into her pillow. Is there more of this storyline to come? Sorry to ask such weird questions but since I aint watched in a while I found myself utterly confused. Does Peggy return on thursday then? I really need to catch up on my spoilers, EE seems to be picking up a bit now. |

Dennis & Sharon, Kat & Alfie, Andy & Sam, Sonia & Martin, four couples underlined by questionable trust issues. That was the operating theme in tonights more occassional 'experimental format' episode of EE. Whether they trust/are trusted by the other (Kat & Alfie, Sam & Andy) or whether they trust themselves (Dennis, Sharon, Martin). I think it was a very sophisticated episode of soap, doing what EastEnders always managed to do very well: run a storyline, then observe the emotional fallout on the sidelines (for example: 'The SharonGate Affair' in 1993 was an amazing roller-coaster storyline climax, but the exploratory episodes, such as the [sort of] two-hander between Grant & Michelle in 1995, were what cemented it as great).
Now I always resented Andy Pandy's presence in Albert Square in 2004, because I saw him always as largely pointless, presenceless, and bloating, and damaging to the previously wonderful Kat & Alfie relationship. When they paired him with Sam Mitchell, I thought it was a cheap ploy to pair off two fairly pointless characters to keep them on the show. But after tonight, I totally exonerate this: I believe, and I may be wrong, but I believe they're foreshadowing the future of Sam, and the Mitchells. Sam becomes Peggy. Andy becomes Eric. The quirky blonde-bombshell married to the EastEnd bruiser. Under the thumb. This is why I think he got her to put the dress on only to take it off, to exert his power over "the Mitchell", and to actively disreguard The Chelsea Smiler's personal demons/superstitions about the dress. That, if it was their intention, is actually very good storytelling. And the acting wasn't half bad either. I saw a clip from The Poison Dwarf's confrontation with Hey There Geordie Girl, which is coming on Friday, and it looks so good. It is the first time I have got excited about EastEnders for ages. The Fowlers may be the roots, the Slaters may be the claws, but the Mitchells are the granite heart of the East End. Bring it on. |
