stupid question

I've recently bought an LG Micro System, it boasts (on a huge sticker stuck onto the front of my other-wise stylish micro system) that it plays MP3s (or MP3 Playback). I have an ipod and download many tracks and albums from itunes.

do I have to save these downloads onto a CD to play them on my micro system? or is there another way. surely all average cd players would play a cd downloaded from itunes? sorry if I'm being stupid, don't really understand how this thing works yet!

I have a Goodmans CD player that plays MP3s, and this is what you have to do, it should theoretically be the same for the LG. Basically, you would create a standard (sometimes called ISO or Data) CD-ROM from your burning software such as Nero. I'm not sure about using iTunes. All you have to do is add .mp3 files to the CD-ROM, burn it, then insert into the micro system.

Hope this helps

If you use Nero, start a normal data CD and fill it up with MP3 tracks; then you can play it back on your CD player.

they already do. just saved them onto a cd, but they also play on other normal cd players. thats what I don't really understand, this new micro system doesn't seem to offer anything normal cd players do already.

just get a 3.5mm jack to 2 phono lead then have your ipod play through your hifi

Did you by any chance set your CD burning sofware to create an Audio CD? In which case it will have converted them into CDA format. This is the only way you could get them to play on a standard CD without MP3 capability.

Next time try creating a DATA CD, I'm willing to bet that won't work. (yes you do need to set to data even though you are creating a disc full of audio if you want to preserve them in MP3 or whatever format)

iTunes are a different format to MP3 and it is very unlikely, though not impossible that your system will play them in their native format.

then why would I want to do it?

In the sense that it won't play on your CD, sorry if that wasn't clear. To play MP3's on your LG system you actually need to store them on CD as data files. The player will then recognise this and kicks in it's MP3 decoder.

By telling Nero or whatever to create an Audio CD you have already done the conversion from MP3 hence why it can play on any CD player.

If you create a data CD of iTunes files then it won't play because the LG system won't recognise the format (or is very unlikely to), which is what I actually meant. If you create an Audio CD it is possible that the burning software could convert to CD audio format but then you loose the advantage of being able to store more than 80mins worth of audio.
