Has anyone used this?

Is it good, are there any drawbacks?

I am on Nokia and have just downloaded it - looks quite good but I don't know much about these things...

All messages on this app are read by Government secret services and passed on to the CIA.

It's excellent. I use it on my iPhone an chat to a friend who's on PAYG so he doesn't need to sue up his text allowance. The good thing about it is that you can see when the message has been read and also when they are typing a reply.

I second that too, and i think that its something that can be used across some platfrorms, so from iPhone to BB's (i think)

It's brilliant. Only discovered whatsapp about a month ago and have been using it constantly. I love it. I've got a Samsung Galaxy Ace.

Brilliant.

Used it on my Desire when my other half and their iPhone were in China for 3 months earlier this year.

How can you see when the message has been read?

At the top of the screen it tells you when the contact last checked his/her messages. Then, when 2 ticks appear next to the message you've sent you know it's been displayed on their device. It also tells you when the person is online and also when they are typing (all this, apart from the 2 ticks, is directly underneath the name of the contact in the message screen - the ticks are next to the message you've sent).

Ah OK cool I thought the two ticks just meant the message was sent. Thanks very much xx

One tick means it's been received on the server of the recipient (so their internet provider) and the 2nd tick means that it's been displayed on the screen of the device being used. If the person happens to online and with the app open then the 2 ticks appear almost simultaneously.

I wondered what the ticks meant but went onto the WhatsApp website and there's quite a useful tutorial which you don't get via using the app alone.

I use it on my HTC Wildfire and loads of my mates use it on their phones. We send random pictures of stupid things to each other for free on it. I also use it to message my international online friends for free.
