In your opinion, what have been the worst/pointless greatest hits in the past ten years?

For me, although she's a great singer - The Best Of Sani Thom seemed a bit desperate

Kelly rowland has one. But it's very poor. It includes a few of her hits (but missed out dilemma and like this) and then the following 8/9 tracks are from her Ms Kelly album. I came across it on Play.com's bargain page.

Ne-Yo never done a greatest hits.

Edit - Oh Isee on Wiki there's a 'Collection' album. I wouldn't really class that as one.

Taylor Dayne - I swear she had two songs? I mean, I love both of them but still.

The Libertines had a greatest hits after just two albums, and what, two or three non-album singles? Great music but not necessary.

Also, Queen's third Greatest Hits was a cash-in with about five worthy tracks and thirteen tracks of filler, especially when you compare it to the pop brilliance of the first two Greatest Hits they did. I hoped they'd re-order the tracklistings for the 2011 remasters, add a few minor hits from the 1970s and 1980s, and start GH3 from The Miracle onwards, you can get a real 3CD best of with no filler!

Hilary Duff's first Greatest Hits felt extremely pointless. The second one was more suitable.

To me the most pointless ones are the 2nd/3rd greatest hits that come only a few years after an artists first one greatest hits.

such as U2's18 contains good songs...but was it really needed so soon after their 2 original greatest hits? same with Robbie Williams 'In And Out Of Conciousness' which with his Rudebox album flopping only added Bodies and You Know Me as successful hits to his original collection.

I remember when Samantha Mumba's second studio album was cancelled, and replaced with a greatest hits. Well I think it was actually called 'The Collection' but it was to all intents and purposes a greatest hits. Basically all of her first album with a few b-sides and remixes padding it out.

The recent Pet Shop Boys greatest hits was rather pointless too.

I sort of agree with you here, but the thing with PSB greatest hits is that there's always something not on other albums. Discography has Was It Worth It (and I believe a few 7-inch versions of other songs), PopArt has Miracles and Flamboyant, but no Was It Worth It. Ultimate has Together, plus Love Etc and I'm With Stupid that obviously came out after PopArt. When I recommend people to PSB, I always say Discography for the big hits, and PopArt for the most comprehensive collection. But Ultimate is basically pointless.

it was aimed more at the american market to be fair. where she had 9 top 20 hits.

same with Robbie Williams 'In And Out Of Conciousness' which with his Rudebox album flopping only added Bodies and You Know Me as successful hits to his original collection.
he did also have 2 top 10 hits from the rudebox album and `she`s madonna` also made the top 20. i think in robbie`s case it was more about emi squeezing out extra sales before he rejoined take that.

Some artists seem to have more greatest hits/best of albums than normal ones
Elton John is one who has had loads since the 70's. The best one I have is a ltd edition 3 disc one. In fact that is almost another thread discussion......ltd edition greatest hits. Blur had a good one with a live disc. The Manics (who have a new one out soon) had a great 2 disc one with some brilliant remixes. Texas had a great 2 disc one with some superb remixes........any more?

Sonia, (remember her?), has a Greatest Hits CD available.
The ironic thing is that non of her greatest hits are on it!

It totally ignores her SAW debut, and just plucks random tracks from her 2nd & 3rd albums instead.

Mariah's old label (forgot the name but it was the label she was on when she in her hey day). They keep releasing compilations of her. They released another best of from her last year or this year but 90 per cent of the songs were actually album tracks and not even hits.

I loved her music but Billie Piper's one was a bit ridiculous given that it was only 7 singles and the rest album tracks or b sides.

I think you need to have at least 10-12 hit singles to put out a decent greatest hits. All Saints one is the exception for me as I love it despite it only having 9 singles on it including a double A Side + Melanie Blatts solo single with the Artful Dodger.

Rick Astley has a quite extensive greatest hits album. I think you'd be hard pressed to find more than a few people who can name any of his "hits" apart from the obvious one.

I own no songs from Rick Astley or actually like any but I know he's had 'Cry For Help', 'Whenever You Need Somebody' and 'Never Gonna Give You Up'. Now struggling to think of the others. Remembered another one - 'Together Forever'. There's probably one or two others that if someone mentioned them I'd say "Oh yeah, I remember that one".

Lol @ Big Rick. Didn't he have one where the chorus goes 'She wants to dance with meeeee-eeeee!' or summat?
I only know it 'cos of Bob Mortimer dressed up as him singing it on Vic Reeves Big Night Out.

And back O/T, Dead Or Alive. And I bought it.
I was going thru my 'ironic 80s cheese' phase. For shame!

Yes - that's another one! Without cheating I think it's called 'She Wants To Dance With Me'.

Christinas Greatest Hits was a bit pathetic. Not only does she not have enough hits to actually fill an album, but they actually left a couple of hits off it. (Can't Hold Us Down, Tilt Ya Head Back, Car Wash... even Reflection could have made an appearance.)

I think all artists should have a minimum of 4/5 albums before a GHs. Not until an artist has more hits then can be fit on a CD should they release one.

t.A.T.u. - The Best. Especially in the UK when only 4 singles had been released. I still bought it though

The fugees have one and they only did two albums but released like 5 singles. The rest of the album is live performances and a few albums tracks. It deffinatley showcases the Best of the fugees from both albums to be honest.

Joy Division have a best of album which i own, thats kind of pointless though as its about 35 songs over 2 discs, they might as well just have added another disc and released all their stuff...
Morrissey has quite a few greatest hits albums too probably about five which is quite ridiculous really... surely one or two is enough!
i usually prefer listening to albums rather than greatest hits though to be honest a lot of the best songs are usually not the hits
