Dropped vodafone mobile in dettol.........how can I get it to work again?

My 9 yr old son had 'visitors' on his hair. I was going through his hair with the nit comb and dettol mixed with water, before washing his hair. The dettol/water mixture was in a small jug.

My mobile was in my hand, I leant across to answer a text and the phone slipped and fell into the jug, I got it out in less than 10 seconds. I couldn't switch the phone off, I used the landline to see if it was working. I could hear ringing down the receiver, but couldn't hear the mobile ringing.

I've taken out the battery & sim card to let it dry in the kitchen cupboard. Would I be better using the rice method? Leaving the phone in dried rice in a tupperware box?

Thanks in advance

I think you need to try teh rice thing first just to get all the moisture out.

The chip in the phone is now probably fried.

So you was doing 2 things at once. Was the mobile expensive? Bet you wished you put it down while you was sorting your sons hair out.

It was only a cheap £25 one. I was just about to give his hair a 2nd treatment so the jug was still on the table. It was as I was picking the phone up that it slipped out of my hand.

It's still in the rice, will check it later this afternoon. Son doesn't have as many visitors, but will probably shave his hair later

You can get SIM card readers that plug into a PC/laptop. So you don't need the phone to be working at all.

Mind you only worth it if you actually stored any numbers on the SIM. If you used the phone's internal memory only you may be stuffed if it doesn't revive.

I'll probably end up getting a cheap phone again if I can't get my old one to work and try the SIM in that. I can get most of the numbers back anyway
