maybe the rest of you arent as sad as me but i cant help wonder some of the following things...

like how an old lady like Rita in Corrie manages to bring back all her stock from the forever-mentioned cash and carry when she doesnt own a van or drive or anything!

or how The Vic are always waiting on deliveries from the brewery but The Rovers always seems to have plenty of alcohol to go round!

or how Dev manages to own a posh dockside flat, luxury car and 6 shops when he only sells a couple of pints of milk each week?

or how nobody in The Rovers or The Vic ever asks for a coke, when the shops in EE and Corrie display cans of coca cola and pepsi!

or how nobody in Albert Square owns a washing machine, but can always afford a round of drinks in the Vic!

any ideas, anyone...?!

i don't think any of these can be explained.. it never really makes any sense like why did the Millers move to Albert Square when they are all unemployeed apart from Mickey who cleans windows !! Where he stayed before the family moved there i don't know

abit of realism wouldn't go amiss like someone saying i can't go out tonight i'm saving or i've got no money..

the biggest problem i have is they all work 2 mins from there house so why go to the cafe for a tea and pay ?

yeah thats very true - and how in both Corrie and EE, they all live, work and socialise within a 50 metre radius - i bet going to work at Lucys florist was like a trip to Australia for Tracy Barlow!

Well all realistic factors aside, you have to remember that this is a soap, they only have a certain budget for the number of sets and stuff, and places like the Cafe, Pub, laundromat etc, all provide places for interactions between the characters. Thats why the characters all seem to eat out rather than have dinner at home, it provides an excuse for characters to interact with each other.

The fact that everyone seems to work and live in a small radius is also to do with budeget considerations and the need for characters to interact with each other. I mean, if most of the characters worked outside of the street or square, then you would need sets for all of these different workplaces and stuff and also extras to play the part of staff. And even if you didn't show the workplaces, then characters would have dissapear offscreen for most of the episode as they would be working.

As for why Rita doesn't own a van...or even drive? Who knows maybe she is Superwoman and flies home carrying all her stock.

Ahhhh but Rita DOES drive...

Just a few weeks ago she drove the oldies to the town hall when they did their protest against Alf's fountain.

There have been other parts in the great story of Coronation Street where it has been made apparent that Rita owns a car and drives it.

that's the thing that never works about soaps they all own cars but they are never parked in the square or the street but when they need one a brand new car appears from no where !!

That's so true, Coronation Street is the worst by far.

There's only Gail & Rita that have garages on the Street - but Gail doesn't even have a driving license! (she failed her test in 1983) although I think it is possible that most residents with cars rent garages somewhere on Viaduct Street - Ken Barlow did in 1981 when he bought a Volkswagen and Albert Tatlock refused to let Ken park the "Jerry Car" in the Street.

There is parking at the back of the Harris and Peacock houses that we never see, it's through gates at the corner near Streetcars.

OK this is starting to turn into another of my Coronation Street rantings.

I always find it laughable when you see cars on EastEnders, they always seem to be driving through the busy market!
