Windows Phone - Pre-Mango Update

Little bit of a dilema here, guys. Last night I plugged my man's phone into the PC and up popped Zune and an update message [7.0.7403].

I ran the installer and all went well, however now the phone doesn't work properly! Many of the included Microsoft Apps won't run [Marketplace, Maps, IE etc.] and downloaded Apps won't open either. WiFi has also stopped working...

I was going to restore the phone, however when you go to "Update" on Zune it just constantly searches for an update that never comes. I had a look online and they said that if you get 7.0.7403 you should automatically be promted to upgrade to 7720 [aka. Mango].

Thoughts? =/

What phone do you have? Had any kind of hack been done to it? Did you disconnect the phone after doing the 7403 update? In any case, plug the phone back into zune and you can restore it to how it was before doing the 7403 update.

No hack - just a bog standard Samsung Omnia 7. Plugged it in, updated and then was told "You can now unplug your mobile."

I unplugged it and now it's stuck on 7403 and Zune won't even recognise it [on two different machines]. WiFi has now started to work and some more Apps are functioning. The "Phone Update" bit in "Settings" doesn't even work.

What can I do? Would it be worth resetting the phone?

What network was it on?

Try rebooting the PCs and then leave the phone connected to the PC, after a period it might get recognised in zune which is what you need.

There is also a windows phone tools repair kit that is downloadable I think.

Worst case, you'll need to take it back to a shop for software reinstallation. Once you've done that however, you can use the backup done in zune to restore it to how it was yesterday.

Do you have the latest Zune software? I think it's 4.8 something. You need it for the Mango. This 7403 update is the last stop before Mango and it's possible it's not fully functional, because Mango should install right over it.

It's on 3. It got the first update OK and nkw is playing silly beggars. I think 7403 is a firmware update, rather than OS. I'll try it again in Zune.

EDIT: Zune has found the phone, but I cannot restore it as going into "Update" [to do a restore] causes it to endlessly search for updates.

I think just persevere with this before trying other avenues. It may involve leaving the phone there for a while as it searches for updates.

This is the only case I've heard of it going wrong. At least the backup is there, just a case of getting the restore to work.
