I've also seen two of Madonna's tours and again, Madonna I feel is nothing compared to Beyonce. Madonna's dancing consists of mostly just grinding and her dance routines are nowhere near as complex or as detailed as Beyonce's
Madonna received a dance scholarship to the University of Michigan after graduating from high school. She proved to be a gifted dancer. Her ballet teacher persuaded her to pursue a career in dance, so she left the college at the end of 1977 and relocated to New York City. During this time, she studied with modern dance legend Martha Graham as well as a Graham disciple, Pearl Lang. Madonna later performed with several modern dance companies, including Alvin Ailey and the Walter Nicks dancers.Madonna also joined a tour with French singer Patrick Hernandez. |

I don't think Beyonce is overrated in terms of her talent, but I've always been dissapointed with her solo matierial. With the exception of a few songs (I still love Crazy in love and irreplaceable), most of her stuff has never matched up to the quality of her voice for me. The worst offenders are tracks like Diva and Run the World - which sound like they were written by a five year old.
I would love for Beyonce to record a really soulful rnb album at some point soon rather than the commercial rnb-pop she's been doing for so long. I know that soulful rnb doesn't really sell these days, but surely she has a strong enough fanbase? |

Madonna was a professional dancer before she became famous, Beyonce would be considered an amature dancer compared to Madonna.

Beyonce is a great vocalist who squanders her talent on increasingly poor material. Greatest tracks she's ever recorded were Etta James covers.

She's an excellent singer, but there are so many others out there, who are under-rated. Great singer/songwriters, and musicians.
With Beyonce a lot of its the performance, as well as the singing, which sells. |

A Gaga fan calling Beyonce's vocals overrated would be completely deranged. Gaga is useless.

Etta and Aretha were far better vocalists than Beyonce could ever hope to be. I'd also include our own Dusty Springfield in that list. They were the originals. Beyonce is purely a derivative song and dance artist who got lucky in getting noticed by doing soft porn videos in her younger days, a bit like Madonna really whom she emulates. Admittedly Beyonce has enough dancing talent to put on a good show, but she's not original or that great, musically speaking.

I've seen Beyonce live and didn't find her particularly interesting. I wouldn't pay to see her again.

Comparing Beyoncé to Madonna is just silly. Bey is a better vocalist, and that's where it stops.
Just put it this way - when Madonna was 30, she was recording songs like Oh Father, Like A Prayer, Spanish Eyes and 'Til Death Do Us Part. Beyoncé is 30 and she released Run The World a few months ago. Also, Beyoncé a better dancer? Pffft! |

Can't sing, can't dance, can't write her own stuff. She's an exercise in clever marketing. |

But Madonna didn't write those songs so I don't see what the relevance is. 'When Madonna was 30, she got other people to write songs for her.' Oh, whoopee.

And I thought we all moved on from the dancing thing after that post about her being a fully trained pro dancer? |

Are you one of those people who think "Co-Writing" must equal what Beyoncé does in all situations?

Madonna is well known in the industry for changing single words in songs to give the appearance that she co-wrote them. In the industry she was, for a long time, followed around by the moniker: 'Change a word, take a third.'
And also, that contradicts what her producers have been saying for 30 years, and she hasn't had the best of relationships with them all. |

Thank you. I laugh at these younguns trying to put Beyonce against a professionally trained world class dancer. Beyonce couldn't even do those kwaito moves in her Run the World video to precision. She is severely overrated and it is the same in the vocal department. She has a voice but can she translate them into no.1 smashes without her Dad bullying everyone in the music industry to make sure she stays on top? No she can't.

Whether it's positive or negative things being said the fact that people are mentioning her along side people like Madonna, Aretha Franklin must mean something.
Who else out right now is matching Beyoncé's voice? I think I need to save a compilation of all the different styles she's done etc, because some people who are underrating her voice. Who else is really consistent like her? I'm not here for strained voices and dodging notes or whatever, She's one of the top vocalists out right now. |

Beyonce has a flawless technique and she's probably one of the best vocalists technically, so if you said that there is noone in the NEW generation who can match Beyonce's technique, you would be correct. When it comes to matching her voice in general...let's just say "each to their own", but technique is objective, yet "voice" is subjective Quote:

Now I agree with that 100%

I think the comparisons have been fairly negative. |
