Hi, I am currently thinking about getting an iPod, all I basically want it for is to listen to music. At present all I use is cds but want to upgrade to an iPod.

I dont really understand the whole iTunes thing.....

- My 1st query is which iPod should I buy?

- My 2nd query is...If after downloading iTunes to my laptop, what happens to all the songs if my laptop breaks?

- My 3rd query is what happens to my songs if my iPod breaks?

If someone could please help I would really appreciate it!

Thanks!

I will try and help,
1) I feel you should always buy as much memory as you can afford, if you just want music and nothing else then go for a classic. But if you like the sound of emails, photos and web then go for the touch.
2) you lose your music, so back your music up the same as any other data. Sometimes you can get iTunes to allow you to redownload music you have brought from them, but this is a may be, so BACKUP.
3) the music on your iPod is just a copy of what is stored on your computer, so if you lose your iPod or it breaks you cry and buy a new one and copy (sync) your music on to your new iPod.

You may have head in the news and on here about the new iPhone is coming out soon, they MAY anonce new iPods at the same time, also the new iOS (what iPhone and iPod touch use to work) are bringing out new features, one of these is reported to be the function that will allow you to sync music over the air without connecting to your computer.

So I would wait a few weeks to see if new iPods come out, (if they don't you might want to think about a cheep second hand iPhone) and what people make of the new iOS.

Does it need to be an iPOD, there are plenty of non apple devices out there far cheaper which will play music some would argue better than the ipod!. The Sansa Clip+ is an excellent little player an 8GB on can be picked up for in the region of £50.

If you have CD's use a free SW EAC (Exact Audio Copy) to RIP these to Your PC. Media Monkey or Musicbee are two free SW packages to control your music library and copy the content to your player.

With the Sansa range there is also a micro SD slot which can take upto a 32gb Micro SDHC card to extend the memory.

Following this all your music is still with your CD's which can be re ripped, if you lose or break the player it's only £50 to get another
