Why? Is all I would ask. Is looking back a good idea?

After Kat and Alfie's DISASTROUS return, I'd keep Kirkwood the f*** away from any more past characters. Imagine what he'd have in store for Sharon or Chrissie

I would say with Pat's exit they certainly need someone from the past back. Too much of the show's history leaves when Pat does so a whole chapter closes.
However I agree with Zack. Given the mess Kat and Alfie's return has been I would hate to see Sharon ruined which I think under the current production team she would be. |

Because the future is looking grim. So many good characters going/gone and such bad ones filling their space.
What message does bringing oldies back send out? |

Ok...fair enough. I totally understand your point and agree with you in many ways, however, is it not better to try to create original, quality, rounded, interesting new characters though?
What message does bringing oldies back send out? Nah, lets stick to the past.

as long as Sharon or Chrissie werent brought back , i'd be fine with any decent past character being back as long as there was a good enough reason and they had something planned for them to do

You mean like Tyler, Anthony, Poppy, Lola, Jodie etc?
Nah, lets stick to the past. ![]() Your list there could so be extended four fold ay...![]() Keeping things constructive and moving the discussion on... bar Sharon...who else could / should the current production team bring back to the show? Who else would you like to see back? For me, the one character who would get me tuning back in occasionally would be Bianca. |

I personally think that Sharon will return for Pat's funeral. Afterall, the two were quite very close.
Hopefully with Wicksy and David coming back to wave goodbye to Pat, Things will start to improve! Let's all live and hope. (Unless you personally, currently LOVE EastEnders (EE) and have no problems with it at all, whatsoever!

Why, what's wrong with Kat and Alfie's return? Have you forgotten the big babyswap SL that they had kindly produced for us?
Alfie is fine in the Vic but would like Mandy working in there with him. |

I miss 2005 Kalfie, as the imposters on the show right now are destroying the characters forever. |

I agree with the loss of Pat the show needs more links to the past, the only problem is other than Sharon they have killed off every single legendary character the show has ever had: Pauline, Kathy, Lou, Den, Angie, Cindy, Mark, Arthur etc etc. So there isnt much choice left at all. Susan Tully has ruled out ever returning and Ross Kemp has said he wont return anytime soon either so the only long term characters with deep rooted history in the Square who could realistically return are Sharon and (dare i say it) Sonia.

This is becoming extremely tiring and boring quite frankly. No past characters returning are going to make a jot of difference to this ailing show. You can't polish turd as they say.

Not under Kirkwoods reign, when Kirkwoods era is over and as part of the overhaul it will be a good move especially with Pat leaving.

Why, in some people's minds, does this always seem to be the solution to solving EE's problems - bring back an old character??
Sure, bringing back a well-loved familiar face would be a ratings boost and get certain people interested again, but it's ultimately what they do with the character that is going to keep viewers interested. A return cou;ld bring in the audiences, but a few weeks, or months, later they could be thinking 'what the hell was the point?' as the character may not be doing anything of great importance (mandy) or it has just been a complete cocked-up characterisation of previously popular and loved characters (kat and alfie). |

Sometimes it is better to let sleeping dogs lie. Kalfie are a case in point. Their whole exit the first time was lovely...beautiful. The perfect end to their story. Line drawn. Now, following their return, all those nice memories have been shot to pieces, sadly, in my view. |

Absolutely right. The thing is, peoples' expectations need to be met. If they aren't, people are left disappointed. I think people had high expectations before Sharon's returns, but did they live up to expectations? Not sure.

Now, following their return, all those nice memories have been shot to pieces, sadly, in my view. I agree on all points. However, in the case of sharon's 2001 return, i wasn't familiar with the character having only watched for a few years, but i ended up liking her So her return worked well in that respect for me.On the subject of kalfie, iloved their xmas '05 exit, it was perfect for them. I must admit, though, that i was quite excited when i heard they were returning, but i can now say i have been very DISAPPOINTED.. in my honest opinion kat has been ruined. i wish that they never returned. that;s why, i suppose, im not really for the returns of characters that i grew up with. I loved the kat of 2000-2005, but sadly the memories i have of her seem really distant now. |

Well it didn't work with Kat and Alfie so I don't see what much difference it would make. Bringing back old characters is a bit like trying to paper over the cracks.
