Please no...no way can more screen time for Sue Cleaver be justified by making her fall pregnant.
Once the pregnancy is over (and no-doubt another "Who's the father?" storyline) all we will be left with is a middle-aged single-mother. Eileen's character will become very limited, much more limited than it is already.
I wish the Coronation Street writers would stop using pregnancy as a shock tactic - there are plenty of other things they could do with Eileen, which I would find much more interesting.
Do you know that since 1990 there have been 18 births on Coronation Street and only 6 of those children still appear on the show? To my mind that's utterly ridiculous. Compare this with the 7...yes 7 births between 1960 & 1989 and it may become apparent how dependent Coronation Street has become on births and pregnancies. Of the 7 children born between those dates, 4 have been regular characters within the past 2 years (Tracy, Peter, Nick & Sarah).
I'm completely bored by the way that babies are continuously added to the story with the aim to create more drama. There was no need for Sarah being pregnant with Billy, and there was also very little point to most of the other babies born.
Think of something more original writers.
