I saw this on the weekend. Amazing as always. I prefer the longer videos as they give you longer snippets. Mariah really doesn't get the credit she deserves.

Her range is just incredible. I've been a fan for so many years yet she still amazes me, the things she can do with her voice are just WOW.

Isn't she the most successful female solo artist? Isn't she considered one of the best singers of all time? If that isn't enough credit, what is! |

She doesn’t get enough credit for her songwriting, a lot of people assume she doesn’t write because of the kind of singer she is.

Stunning...she's one of the living legends. It's a shame Whitney lost it, and to and extent Mariah as well. But back in their days they were both untouchable...
Mariah's range is absolutely amazing...I can't think of current singers ranges that even come close to hers besides Leona and Christina... |

Mariah is one of the best vocalists ever and her whistle notes were on such a high level that she could even be compared to Minnie Riperton!

Oh dear, same old nonsense.
Absolutely dreadful.... As I've said before it's not about the frequency of the noise, yes noise, it's about maintaining the quality/timbre across the "range". It is that that defines "range", not just the ability to make a noise... |

@ people failing to grasp the fact that the video is entirely made up of snippets. Mariah's register goes from E2 to G7, she has a 5 octave and this is what the vid showcases, not her timbre or whatever else |

She does have an impressive voice, it's just a shame that it is so soulless.

While the broadest definition of vocal range is simply the span from the lowest to the highest note a particular voice can produce, this broad definition is often not what is meant when "vocal range" is discussed in the context of singing. Vocal pedagogists tend to define the vocal range as the total span of "musically useful" pitches that a singer can produce.
So, aside from bragging rights for a few fanboys simply showing their ignorance such claims are utterly meaningless.

If you knew what it meant or bothered to find out then you would realise the very fact that it is "snippets" only highlights the obvious flaws... and she does NOT have a 5 octave range by any credible assessment where quality of voice is taken into account.

If you think for one second that Mariah Carey has/had more than 2 octaves greater useful vocal range then you are seriously delusional. Of course Maria Callas or any other highly trained singer can make a noise outside a 3 Octave range, but it's not counted as part of their range unless it maintains certain qualities... For god-sake learn about the subject instead of constantly falling for BS simply because some fanboy on YouTube claims it is so Quote:
Maria Callas vocal range As for Maria herself she never commented on whether she sang the high 'F' or not...In performance, Callas's range was just short of three octaves, from F-sharp (F♯3) below middle C (C4) heard in "Arrigo! Ah parli a un core" from I vespri siciliani to E-natural (E6) above high C (C6), heard in the aria "Mercè, dilette amiche" in the final act of the same opera, as well as in Rossini's Armida and Lakmés Bell Song. Whether or not Callas ever sang a high F-natural in performance has been open to debate. After her June 11, 1951 concert in Florence, Rock Ferris of Musical Courier said, "Her high E's and F's are taken full voice."[16] Although no definite recording of Callas singing high F's have surfaced, the presumed E-natural at the end of Rossini's Armida—a poor-quality bootleg recording of uncertain pitch—has been referred to as a high F by Italian musicologists and critics Eugenio Gara and Rodolfo Celletti.[29] Callas expert Dr. Robert Seletsky, however, stated that since the finale of Armida is in the key of E, the final note could not have been an F, as it would have been dissonant. Yes, genuine assessments of vocal range don't sound nearly so impressive but why let that get in the way. ![]()

![]() I only looked this up last night, but I see that Deanna Durbin my all time favourite singer is attributed a range from A3 to E6, which if true would be quite impressive... But then certain things need to be taken into consideration: 1) People exaggerate, and boy don't they just!!! 2) Use of a microphone can extend the apparent "range" somewhat. 3) Had she ever performed on the opera stage that "range" would very likely have been revised down (probably losing some of the lower range). You simply can't take these claims at face value, even if you are a fan and might wish them true...

Minnie's whistle register was very limited, Mariah has far more control over hers. I don't doubt the wonderful Minnie or her talents, but from an objective point of view, Mariah is the superior.
