She certainly doesn't look good enough to take over from Suranne. Her looks remind me a lot of Bobbi Lewis. Of course, Bobbi didn't last and at the moment I don't see any reason why Kelly will. In all honesty if Karen hadn't been paired with Steve, I guess she would have gone too. Suranne was sort-of the underdog at the turn of the millennium, when Linda Baldwin ruled the roost and the sexy young things that were Geena and Bobbi arrived, along with Karen. Karen didn't start having a very major part until round about 2003 with the Joe Carter stuff, even Suranne herself said that one day she suddenly realised that the writers were giving her decent stuff, and decided to give it her all - and look where that's got her.
Anyway, back to Kelly, the only factory girls that have worked for the long-term are those heavily rooted within the Street, outside of the factory. Fiz has Kirk, Cilla, Les & little Chesney, Janice has Les too, as well as Leanne (and Toyah) to give their characters more depth, Hayley has Roy to allow other storylines, and Angela's got the rest of her family. Sonia is unattached in a domestic sense, but her character still remains as a bit of a "background" so real depth is not needed at the moment.
Kelly runs the risk of following in the same path as Bobbi, because apart from her working at the factory, she has no other real reason to be on the Street. She's rumoured to have an affair with Danny Baldwin, which I can't see being that good simply because there is very little scope to see Kelly's side of things, if you get me.
To work as the "new Karen" she can't come in all guns blazing - it took nearly 3 years for the character of Karen to be built up, and otherwise she would have been another quick-burner like Geena or Bobbi. Both the character of Kelly and the actress Tupele have a hard-act to follow, and I don't know if Karen will ever be matched.
