Has anyone here had experience using the following 2.1 speaker system: Panasonic SC-BTT262EBK ?

Ive been given an in store demo and it all sounded pretty good, but im concerned about the lack of reviews.

I’m not interested in 5.1 speakers because my living room isn’t setup that way, and I hate cables.

So any info on 2.1 systems only would be very useful.

Thank you

Does any system you buy have to have a disk player built in? I am no great fan of these all in one systems. For a couple of main reasons.

If the disk player section goes belly skywards you have to chuck away a perfectly good amp and speaker system as well to replace it. Or you lose everything for however long is needed to repair it. At least with separates you can use the working bits while the dead bit is being repaired/replaced. Also you can upgrade separates in stages as finances dictate. With an all in one it's do the whole lot or none.

Many all in ones have very limited connectivity. So if you have a Sky or Freesat receiver, Freeview PVR, games console or whatever you may be stuffed when it comes to making them work with the system.

If a built in disk player is not important then possibly the best system of this nature is the Onkyo HTX22.

It is in effect a pretty capable AV amplifier built into the back of a subwoofer with a pair of satellite speakers. And it can be upgraded to full 5.1 should your circumstances change and you decide you can go that route.

But I would suggest it would do a far better job than any all in one and has enough sockets on the back for most external kit you could throw at it.

Thanks chrisjr

Lots for me to think about there!

The reason I liked the SC-BTT262EBK was that it would run off of my existing Panasonic TV remote.
I will obviously have to look into whether or not the speakers will work with my V HD Box.

Also, the SC-BTT262EBK will only cost me around £260, although I guess it might have less features for that kind of money.

I will pop into Richer Sounds for a demo on your suggestion before I make my mind up

As a reason to buy something to improve your listening exeperience that is pretty much as weak as they come on a par with liking the colour scheme. Possibly use it as a tie-breaker between two otherwise comparable systems.

Hi 5hane, if your popping into Richer Sounds could you check and describe the construction of the speakers, I live 2 far away from them to check this, the only example I have is that Comet have one Onkyo surround system and the speaker cloth on them shows a lattice patern of the plastic frame behind it. I've been looking at the 2.1 Onkyo for a while but been unable to actualy see one in the flesh, I've read that its better with a centre speaker so getting the 3 speaker set might a be an option and you could place the back speakers on occaisons where you want the full sound and not have to route the cables to hide them.

Thanks in advance

LOL point taken.
Obviously that wasn’t the only reason though:

1. Demo sounded good.
2. I don’t have a blu-ray player
3. Price
4. Single Remote
5. Not many cables
6. Improve on my TV's built in speakers

If the HTX22 remote is anything like my Onkyo remote it can control a shed load of devices. I use mine to control my telly.

Yes they will. As I said you are pretty much getting a full AV amp stuffed into the back of the sub. It has multiple HDMI sockets and various Digital audio sockets so plenty of scope to connect up external kit.

Also, the SC-BTT262EBK will only cost me around £260, although I guess it might have less features for that kind of money.
See above. The Panasonic I believe only has a single optical digital input. So if you've got two or more devices you want to make a noise through the speakers with then you either have to change the plugs round all the time or invest in an external switch.

The only thing you gain is a Blu-Ray player. But you can get the very capable Sony BDP-S380 or similar for not a lot of money.

Generally all in one just includes really lousy light weight speakers.. a half decent reciever+ some book shelfs and perhaps a sub is better, but it isn't all in one in a box. Some kits come from onkyo and the rest for home theatre, I'm sure they have 2.0 setups as well, better to get those modular systems than the cheap all in ones which are more or less computer speakers in a box.
