I can't help feeling rather bewildered that Apple didn't take the opportunity to release the iPhone 5.

While the 4S has a reasonable spec bump, consumers are becoming more and more aware of features, and with phones like the Galaxy S2 and the Sensation already as good and better than the 4S, I can't help feeling that Apple is struggling to keep up...

I think they will realise that waiting over a year to release a minor upgrade was a big mistake. Especially with Google's Nexus Prime around the corner...

I was so underwhelmed. I'll be getting the new Blackberry Bold when my upgrade comes.

Having an iPhone is a fashion statement. In the long term Apple may become the victim of its own success. Every man and his dog have one so its really not an exclusive product as it once was. Maybe one day the public will wake up and smell the coffee and realise its no longer trendy to have an iPhone. Much like its no longer trendy to buy duffel coats.

Hah, shows what you know. My iCoat is vastly superior to all other coats. For a start, only the iCoat has iButtons.

Got rid of my iPhone today, and went to Android
I would have bought an iPhone 5, but not bothered about a 4S

I don't think having the 4s look exactly the same as the 4 is a wise move - lots of people buy Apple products to show them off, but no one is going to look twice if they think you are waving around an Iphone4

That is generally how the tech world works.

Perhaps this is why Steve Jobs walked.

I think they would've gotten away with this IF they'd released in July like the others.

Making people wait longer for the smallest upgrade is pathetic.

Whats the shock, Apple often only redesign every 2 years. Look at the iphone 3G and 3GS.

i think they will suffer from this, it has a dual core processor, but i guarantee that Androids and other phone will be Quad core by early next year and by the time apple release the iPhone 5 with Quad core the others would have already moved on im afraid

Go to the Galaxy S2 then.

I don't want a bigger screen on my phone I have an Ipad.

Have they lost it? No the Iphone 4 sold great so why change it usually Iphone designs last two or three cycles. I heard the same moans when the 3G went 3GS with only a 3MP camera update. How popular was that phone?

The big update is the camera and A5 chip on IOS5 with 200 features so it will be decent.

Moved on to what?

I'm not sure what use quad core would be on a phone, my home computer isn't even quad core...

Android will be out dated in three months as the next model will come along

I'll stick to a 4S until the next Iphone update.

At that time, iOS was still undesputedly the best operating system at least for usability.

Apple had an enormous head start but the others have really caught up both on spec and software, I'm afraid instead of leading the way Apple are now beginning to play catch-up against other phone manufacturers,

Yeah, right. It all comes down to name.

The iPhone 4S is to the iPhone 4 what the iPhone 3GS was to the iPhone 3G, but quite a bit more so in terms of its hardware upgrades.

Does it matter if it is an iPhone 5 or a 4S? Personally I won't be getting either, but I don't get anyone dissing the 4S with iOS5 just because it wasn't the much awaited iPhone 5.

The difference is, Apple isn't the market leader, so introducing incremental updates like that only affect you as the consumer. They don't care as they make their money, but you are locked into a contract lasting over a year with a phone that was already way out of date from the day you bought it.

It's not about screen size, its about value, and iPhone 4S has zero value imo. There is no point switching to this phone when SGS2 and Sensation give you way better specs for less money.

Apple aren't in a position to make fools out of their consumers any more. You may be OK with throwing away cash on silly upgrades like this, but many others are not and will switch to something that will give them more bang for their buck, and the iPhone 4S does not do this.

Windows still owns over 80% of the computer market, Android has overtaken iPhone in the mobile market, and their founder is no longer in a real position at the company...

They have an uphill battle ahead of them imo.

No windows own more of the market because of the amount of different companies which use window's such as HP, Dell, Sony etc....

Mac computers are better than Window's on reliability etc...

Where are these facts coming from? And don't say that Macs never gets viruses. They do. It's just that no-one can be bothered to make viruses for Macs because hardly anyone uses them. I also find the Office for Mac to be worse than the Windows version, and some programs don't even support Mac.

Apple made the same mistake with iOS which is why they are losing the mobile market. Support of OEMs is a very powerful thing.

You are comparing hardware to software... If you compare mac sales then compare then to other hardware manufacturers such as HP, Sony, Dell.

Very bold statement that is untrue. Please explain how MAC is less reliable than a PC's running windows 7 ? Especially when hardware is the same but in most cases a lot more advanced.
