It is embarrassing hearing his 'jokes', it totally spoils Strictly for me. And if he had spent less time whittering on we would have been able to hear all the judges comments without the dancers being rushed off.

Sir Bruce is a strictly legend and needs to stay for as many years as he can.

He has his critics, but it'd be a poorer show without him.
When he does go and if the show is still running, expect radical changes, which may not be welcomed by all.

Bruce's strength is when he makes off the cuff funny comments about the performances, or is genuinely moved as a true dance lover, and not just a 'presenter'.

His weakness is reading the cue cards with those unfunny jokes, which I'm astonished to learn are written by several scriptwriters.

Give them the sack, and leave Brucie to add lib.

I did have a little chuckle when I was listening to The News Quiz on radio 4 recently when Sandy Toksvig made a joke about Vernon Kay and one of the panel said he was suprised that Sandy knew who Vernon Kay was and she replied 'I know who he is hes married to the lady who is Bruce Forsyths nurse'

Thats a very good idea.

On the subject of scriptwriters, I'm surprised his critics are unaware of the number of times after telling a poor joke he says; "Who writes this?"

Some he has to tell are so long and contrived he finds it difficult to tell them.

Many of his off the cuff remarks are funny, some aren't, to which he usually adds "I put that one in...I wish I hadn't!"

Its worth putting up with a few duff ones for the all off the cuff gems he comes out with.

Ah, hello, TerryM22. We shall cross swords on this one, in the nicest possible way, perhaps to the strains of the Minuet in "The Gondoliers" -- called "I am a courtier, grave and serious".

Bruce is too old, I fear, to play a convincing Duke of Plaza Toro, and I do not believe he would have the strength for Don Quixote nor yet Falstaff. In short, Bruce does not have the energy to keep his eyes and face alive until the end of the Saturday evening show, so I believe there are no more years left in "as he can" unless he is (a) cloned or (b) represented by a hologram. (b) might be the cheaper option, and I join the OP in preferring option (c), viz that Series 9 must absolutely be the last and final and ultimate series of Strictly where Bruce appears as a presenter.

By the way, the next line goes;
"Who is about to kiss your hand;"

Don't you think it's time Bruce dropped the silly dance at the beginning, not very dignified for a legend, and left Tessa's knee alone? She is so much taller than he is, these days.

Check out the list of scriptwriters in the credits at the end of the show.....

HE writes that rubbish himself!

It's a bit boring this constant 'Bruce must go' diatribe.

It's clear that he's very popular with the public and probably one of the attractions of the show. As for people saying the jokes 'Ruin the show', do me a favour. If a 10 second joke 'ruins' a show for you, you don't really enjoy the show in the first place.

It's a light-entertainment reality TV show, not a serious dancing contest show.

I suspect were Bruce to go, these people would find something else that 'ruined' it for them.

I agree. Very good set of points, and I think it's important to discuss this one, it's quite a fresh topic.

Surprising no-one's raised it before, in fact.

Bruce's real strength comes from the ad-libbing when things dont quite go to plan. I wish he'd stick to that and presented "straight" without any of the bad jokes.

Tom thingy manages to present "straight" on Dancing with the Stars without many inane jokes - why can't Bruce?

A bad joke is worse than no joke.

But why has no one thought of this good point before

Today is Wednesday. I know this because I heard it on BBC Breakfast.

Do you think there'll be any dancing this coming Saturday?

I used to really hate Bruce's jokes and think he should go, too.
But in the recent years I guess he and his (or the script writers') humour have grown on me, I don't mind either now.

Submit that to the Doddery it's funnier than any thing he has or will ever utter.

He should have been put out to grass before he did the Generation game and left there.

Lets not forget when the kick off show started three weeks ago and the dancers were finiding out who the celebs were, he was brilliant especially the Edwina bit with Artem and when Audley and Russell were left it was so funny

Thats why he is part of the show, it was all ad lib, as someone said earlier, its the scriptwriters who write the jokes they should be sacked

I second this completely.

Bruce is unique in his position as he's been going for so long. The Beeb will have Bruce on SCD as long as he wants to be there and so they should.

Your right, Sir Bruce is very popular with the public.

He's been on my telly for over 40 years and I've never been a fan..ever! He always hogs the limelight and always fancied himself as Britain's answer to Sammy Davis Jnr a complete song & and dance man. I don't wish him ill and admire his staying power but his drivel and catch phrases are long worn out...enough is enough.
