This really isn't good. Vocal fold haemorrhage' tend to leave significant permanent damage. This is so odd for Adele to be having one at her age, even with the amount of singing she does. There must be something really wrong with her technique...
I'm no Adele fan, but I wouldn't like to see her voice disappear.

I've always speculated that Mariah Carey had a vocal fold haemorrhage as her voice drastically changed in 1997.

This is the best article I've found on vocal fold hemorrhages:

http://www.casa.org/node/5397

"Vocal fold hemorrhage (Fig 4) occurs after intense use of the voice for prolonged period of time or in relation with an upper respiratory tract illness. After strenuous vocal use, a sudden change in the voice is often noted. The condition characterized by the bleeding of the soft tissue of the vocal folds caused by the rupturing of blood vessels on the surface of the vocal cords. Someone who has vocal fold varices, or large dilated veins, on the surface of the vocal fold has a higher risk of suffering from vocal fold hemorrhage. The hemorrhage usually only occurs on one vocal fold, but rarely it can happen in both. This condition is common among females and professional vocalists. This is thought to be because of hormonal imbalances and frequent overuse of the vocal folds and a higher sensitivity to vocal changes, respectively. "

It's hard to say without more information from Adele or her camp, but it seems likely that her strenuous schedule + her recent respiratory infection might be the culprit. Either way, it sounds like she needs to just take a few months off completely (at a minimum) and let herself heal fully this time.

She needs to completely quit smoking and get healthy. No ones saying she needs to become a size 8 but she's obviously not eating a healthy diet if she's the size she is.

Also she's been everywhere this year. The stress of it must be immense. I remember Leona Lewis started suffering from chronic tonsilitis during her rise to fame and has suffered from infections ever since.

I have limited sympathy for her as she doesn't look after her voice at all. Drinking, smoking, etc.

She's going to have to have a total vocal rest (and quit smoking, I agree). It's not like she actually needs to tour to sell at the moment, is it?

Yeah Christina suffered the same thing around 2000/2001 time.

Odd thing is her voice ended up becoming stronger as a result.

Christina's main problem is over-singing, but neither her nor Leona smoke and seem to be more protective of their voices.

She clearly needs a break
Adele has done major extensive touring. I don't think there has been a month this year where she hasn't done a live show

With the album 19, she declined a hell of a lot live shows. With this album, she's done a hell of a lot. Her body and voice are clearly not agreeing with her.

She may cut down her touring with future albums.

I'm not a fan of Adele but I hope she doesn't lose her voice altogether I think she needs to rest it for a while and quit smoking.

It will have some form of lasting affect on her voice. I'm thinking it will deepen her voice, thus cutting her range down.

To be fair she's never really relied on her range to emote (you don't get the IMO nonsense 'she can sing 5 octaves blah blah blah' posts about her like you do some other singers, lol) so I don't think that's gonna be a major problem. I just hope she gives her voice a proper rest now. It must be very frustrating, though.

Fair enough, but it's not just range it will have an affect on. Her overall voice will probably be weaker.

i agree, she is not looking after her one and only asset, and to me that's being unfair on her fans.

The best thing she could do is take a long, long, long, LONG break from the music industry to have a rest and review her bad habits

How do people know if Adele hasn't already stopped smoking?

We don't really know if Adele doesn't eat healthily do we? Perhaps there are other reasons. She is hardly massive anyway.

We all know why you want her to take a long rest, GL. Your plan won't work - she doesn't need promo to outsell your fave in her only real market

Well if she continues she only has a very limited lifespan in the music industry, as without her voice she has nothing else.

My fav is in a totally different universe to your fav I'm afraid and she will still be around in 5 years time and be even bigger then she is now if that is even possible , while your's, well I am afraid wont be especially if she continues her current lifestye and wont address her problems.

this picture was taken at the vma`s in august. i do feel sorry for adele to be honest. she doesn't seem to be able to complete a set of gigs without a medical drama. i think she needs to take a decision about touring, when she finally completely her commitments.

if i were her i would seriously consider being a recording artist and quit touring for good.

I never said she was massive but I think if you eat healthy and you're a healthy size then you're less stressed and more energised. We don't know if she does or not but if she doesn't then she should start. Not to look good but for her own health benefits.

Who is your favourite?

I'll try not to laugh too hard if it is who I think it is.

I love Adele, and I'd be devestated if she lost her voice, but it's really her own fault. She's been smoking and singing plus she's been performing so much with all the promo and touring, so really the voice trouble is no surprise tbh.

Better to go out at the top than slowly fade aware into obscurity. Leave them wanting more as they say!
