ney
05-10-2011
I had a chat with 02 and it seems the umlited monthly text has gone down from 12000 to 2900,
The guy said they have changed there fare usage policy. Its seems crap.

Just to clarify, its some pay and go tariffs which have reduced the fair usage to 2990. From the start of September. A very odd thing to do, in my opinion.

You would have thought they would have told use this before now.
Ok I have never used all of my 12000 free texts a month but some months I have use between 500 and 600 text.
As you say it seems odd.
Anywhere I can read about this online.

You would think that people would have been notified and I don't know of anything in writing about it. I know that some people on Simplicity pay and go (where the texts were paid for as a bundle) have complained and been given an extra 100/300 texts to last until their next anniversary date.

It seems odd to do it without letting people know so they can make a choice about topping up for the following month. It also seems a strange number of texts to choose.

I've no evidence for this, but my suspicions are that its a cock-up.

You would have thought they would have rounded it up to 3000 free text and not 2990.
Why they have decided to change it now I dont know. For over the last two years I have need getting 12000 unlimited text for £15 a month and as I said I can some months I can easy use between 500 and 600 text.
02 should have told people that they were going to be making chages like you say.
I only noticed this morning as the day is my anniversary date.

I can't imagine there are many people who send over 100 text messages every day.

If there are I suggest they get some help!

The fair usage has reduced to 2990 texts due to gateway abuse - a small minority of customers abusing the network. This only affects pay & go customers. As far as I am aware, pay monthly contract customers still get the 12000 texts.

This brings o2 in line with the other networks who offer 3000 texts only.

I know that Virgin Media only offer 3000 texts.

For the majority of customers, 3000 texts is more than enough. Anybody who exceeds 2990 texts definately needs help and needs to get a life.

Why 2990 and not round it up to 3000.
As said 02 should have told use of the changes.
I may not use all of the 2990 free text but over a month I will use a good 40%/45% of that.

I understand that people were using the 12000 texts for (automated) commercial use.

I think most people would understand why O2 would want to stop that. I also understand that 2990 is far more than most people could send. However, I stand by my comment that customers should have been informed,in advance, so that they could decide whether to buy/top-up for the next month.
