She posted a video of her confirming it! She looks fantastic in it.

I'm not pleased that she is doing another version of AIWFCIY becuase she only re-recorded the song for her 2nd crimbo album last year. However as it is with Justin it will probably be huge, hope they make a good version.

It's nice Mariah is working. She is working on a new album and workin with Bieber now. Most New Mums would take a few years out.

I really don't get Mariah lately.Isn't she a damn legend??Because she's certainly not acting as one.Why is she trying to cater to the kids and the teenagers. She's been trying to branch out to this audience since 'Touch My Body' and just because this was her most successful debut ever, she thinks that this works for her in general. She has been releasing kidden garden anthems as singles for a long time, but collaborating with Justin Bieber??She really doesn't know what her place is in the industry, does she?All she has to do is make grown music??Not all artists have to reach out to the iTunes audience

I can kind of imagine Justin trying to hit some sort of a BIG note to show off and Mariah harmonising with falsetto without warming up It sounds like a headache

I can't believe none of you can guess why she's really doing this. This is a clever business decision.
1.) She is going to get royalties. She wrote the song in the first place, and she's going to be featured on a new remix of it. Plus, the album is going to sell very well meaning she continues to make profit.
2.) It keeps the song, which is her song, relevent to the young market.
3.) It keeps her relevent with the young market. No young person will have to say "Mariah? Mariah who?"

It would be like Madonna hooking up with Selena Gomez or Demi Lovato. She wouldn't need to re-introduce herself because why, it's Madonna.

Most young people still know of Mariah Carey.

I think she's one of those singers where you know of her and know her songs but don't know they're by her.

ewww! But yeh I can see why she is doing this.

All I Want For Christmas re enters the itunes chart each year doesn't it, so I kind of thought it always introduces itself to a new young audience, it's probably the most known amongst youngsters of the 'classic hear every year' Christmas songs and I'm almost certain continues to do the best, year on year so I'd say it's already pretty well known to youngsters. But clearly a Bieber duet will push it to new heights this year. I think I'll be sticking to the original though

I agree that it's a classic already and she doesn't need Justin to help it cross over to a younger audience.I actually feel that Justin putting his vocals on this classic will harm its reputation and it will alienate the original audience that has followed Mariah throughout her entire career.I don't mean to be negative about it (), but I feel like she has absolutely nothing to gain from this collaboration.

IMO this will be a disaster. Both she and that song are legendary, and there is NOTHING to gain from this duet. You could say Mariah will become known to a younger audience, but she doesnt need to, in fact it could look rather desperate. Mariah, Celine, Whitney and that bunch dont need a young fan base, they have enough following to sustain their career without risking their status by trying to become 'cool'.

I may be wrong but I think Mariah is making a mistake here..

Right, because Madonna has never collaborated with a certain younger artist that was more popular at the time for attention under the guise of a friendship that quickly disappeared when the younger artist rejected Kaballah.
Nope, that has 100% never happened.
Although I would definitely place said younger artist far above Bieber in the pecking order.

On-topic, I think it's an awful idea. Mariah needs to grow up.

Are you talking about Britney?Becuase you can't compare Justin Bieber to Britney Spears.People were calling Britney the princess of pop, so of course Madonna would like to collaborate with her, but it didn't look desperate. She was a high-profile guest in a Britney song. And we don't know if that friendship ended.Madonna invited Britney to the 'Sticky And Sweet' tour and when she convinced her to hit the stage, she started saying "she's not your bitch" to defend her against the bad press...Maybe that was for publicity (even if she hadn't much to gain) but maybe it was heartfelt

People, it's a Christmas record. This isn't desperate, it's cheesy. Christmas songs are supposed to be cheesy.
If the duet was on a song about... I don't know, heartbreak or clubbing then I would have a problem with it.
This is fortunately not the case, the song is for charity and is just one of the many remix/covers of the original song itself. No matter who coves All I Want For Christmas Is You, it's still the original version that gets all the airplay around Christmas time.

What I will say is I would rather the duet be with Michael Bublé as I know he's covering the record and putting his own spin on it.

Exactly!

I'm not thrilled with the duet since I'm no JB fan but I think it will be better than we're imagining it will be. Some are speculating that Mariah has written new lyrics for the song. At any rate I need to hear it before I judge it (though I know it will never surpass the original).

If anyone is interested here is a video of Michael Bublé recording his version of AIWFCIY. Michael Bublé - Recording "All I Want For Christmas is You

I like the new arrangement a lot. The lyrics are very melancholy for such an uptempo song. I wish Mariah would have done something similar when she re-recorded it last year.

FYI the great Stevie Wonder is on JB's Christmas album as well (wish he and Mariah would finally work together already) and I don't think he's "desperate" so IMO Mariah should not be accused of that.
