TBH i would only use it when unable to manually use my phone such as in the Car or possibly in the house for setting my alarm for the next morning as it seems faster than doing it manually.

it will depend on how good it really is. If it does work, and I can use my handsfree and ask for a txt/email to be read, and it works stright away and i dont have to repeat my self again and again, and then reply and the dictation work 100% then i mite use it if my hands are full.

It may also depend on how intuitive it is. For example, saying "what's the weather like in Los Angeles?" would be quicker than opening the weather app and then finding the weather for LA. But it might not be that sophisticated. Given the number of people who happily chat on hands-free whilst walking down the high street or on the bus, it's not going to look much sillier to suddenly say "send a text to Mum", is it?

so do you all use the voice command feature at the moment, and facetime for that matter?

The current voice command can't do much more than play music or call someone and it works terribly.

I would feel like a complete tit!

If I get a 4S at some point, I will probably try Siri in the privacy of my own home, just to see what it's like... and then never use it again.

When I owned an iPhone, I felt like a complete tit just getting it out!

How would it be different to anyone listening to a one sided phone conversation you were having?

It's the embarrassment factor. It would *feel* stupid talking to my phone instead of a person... Getting it out and asking it things, etc.

Personally, I'd feel a complete tit wandering about in public "talking to myself" by using a bluetooth earpiece but it seems like it's a pretty common thing.

For people who do use a bluetooth earpiece regularly, it'll probably be acceptable.

Besides, I'm not sure a willingness to do something in public is a valid litmus test for usefulness.
As I said, I wouldn't use a bluetooth earpiece in public but I have one for use in the car or on my bike or when I'm hiking or when it's raining and I don't want my phone to get wet etc.

If it was valid to criticise gadget features on the basis that they don't get used most of the time we'd all still be using Nokia 3310s and we'd be perfectly happy with them.

So anyway, do you have to use some protocol to have the command accepted, like saying "Open emails, bitch" or can it overhear somebody next to you and do what they want?

Voice command, no. Facetime, yes.

Facetime is a brilliant feature when abroad. I was constantly hooking up to free wi-fi spots and speaking to family back home recently.

I've been doing that with skype for getting on for a decade.

I can see me using it a lot, if it's as good as it's supposed to be. I run three businesses and spend most of my time in and out of meetings/events and on the road, so being able to schedule them just by talking to the phone would be ideal! Frankly, how I appear to other people on the street is the last thing on my mind!!

Voice command sounds like a good idea but in reality it's not that comfortable.

It's been available on Android for years with Viingo and it works really well but it's still more bother than it's worth. Nice to show off to folks but not something I would use daily.
