Hi there, hope you can help me.

Myi sister moved into a new flat 2 weeks ago. she has an old sony tv to which she plugged in a new digibox, a new scart lead and a new ariel cable (which was plugged into the main ariel hole in the wall). the setup then worked perfectly until friday night when the digibox started to say it could receive no signal.

I have been over with a different digibox and an indoor ariel with a signal booster and tried every different configuration under the sun and nothinig will get the picture to return. the tv shows the digibox and scans for channel. it cannot find them. the roof ariel can find analogue and the indoor ariel produced the same result. so it appears that all the seperate components are functioning.

I am at a loss and she keeps coming round to mine to watch the tv which i am getting a bit sick of.. can anyone suggest anything at all which i might have overlooked..

ta in advance x

Well it sounds like a digital signal issue - whether the aerial has a problem or there are transmitter works / changes taking place as part of Digital Switchover.

Whereabouts (general area) is your sister's flat?

Also, if the aerial socket in the flat is linked to a communal aerial - is it a physical aerial on the roof of the block or is it part of a cable set up?

Hello, AlanO - I am a friend of both of these sisters, and am in it up to my elbows trying to sort out this digi/tv scenario!
It sounds like she should knock on her neighbours & ask whether they have reception problems too.

The sister's flat is in the city centre of Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1.

I would imagine it is a physical aerial on the roof but I am not emphatically sure.

Is there anything else we can endeavour to find out?

Thanks for your help

That it's getting an analogue signal OK, but not a digital suggests that the aerial socket may be fed from a 'piped' network which isn't carrying the digital signal.

Probably something to take up with the landlord / maintenance provider of the flats.

As for no signal with an indoor aerial - could be that as you're pre-DSO the digital signal isn't strong enough (the power is increased post DSO).
