Yeah given Adele is on course for 13 million this year Gaga - who is supposed to be the biggest artist in the world! lol can't keep up.

It's only been out for under five months... she'll end the year as the second highest album selling artist of 2011, hardly under-performing.

It's impressive for an artist. Not someone as exposed and 'loved' as Lady Gaga.

Admit it 'monsters', your Gaga has not blew up the world music scene with BTW. this year belongs to an artist that was NEVER considered to be as big as she is.

I believe fans only used these names to be big this year: Britney, Gaga, Xtina etc

No one thought Adele would be on course to sell 13 million (and it will overtake the fame & back to black) at the end of the year.

And as for Rihanna, she has not promoted as much as Gaga and us currently on tour but will be more visible on tv screens in the fall.

Please state where in this thread anyone stated this year wasn't Adele's year? 5 million sales is excellent after four months, Adele and Gaga are the worlds bigger stars in different ways, Adele is terms of sales and Gaga in terms of cultural impact and the media.

She'll probably manage seven million with promotion and the holiday sales period.

So this is what's considered "flopping" these days? I imagine your faves are all desperately wishing they too could "flop" in this manner. How sad for them...

In 2009 The Fame sold 5,683,000
In 2010 The Fame Monster she sold 6,115,700
In 2011 Born This Way has so far sold 5,001,200.

WOW such a decrease .

Rihanna's Loud has sold about 5.7 million since it was released and as BTW has sold around 5 million I think they've both sold really well. Obviously people are comparing BTW with TF(M) and it was hardly going to be realistic for Lady GaGa to sell another 12ish million with her second album, especially since nobody buys album anymore I think she has done reasonably well, not as good as everyone expected but pretty well.

Embarrassing sales. She should probably enter the Witness Protection Program.

She truly is a one hit wonder.

Not. People need to get over Adele..when her 3rd album "only" sells 5 million, will you call her a flop then too?

Nobody buys albums anymore? Yes, that's true, but nobody also bought albums 12 months ago when The Fame was released. You make it sound like it was released 10 years ago or something.

I think the album has done great though. Especially the first week sales, are incredible.

This. A lot of people got carried away with the combined sales of TF/M and instantly assumed the album, instead of albumS sold 12 million.

Born This Way will probably top the sales of The Fame and Fame Monster seperately.

Not bad considering the album has been out since the end of May.

Gosh this Adele/Gaga thing is ridiculous, both have had hugely successful album cycles. An album selling as many units as 21 comes around once every half-decade or so and is a freak success. To use it as a benchmark for success in general is misguided and displays complete ignorance towards the way the industry works.

Trust people to try and spin this as poor.

For her to already be at 5 million sold (7 million shipped) within 5 months and really only 2 hits selling it so far, is impressive.

Especially when you consider the album's yet to go through the high sales and major promotional period of Christmas. Slash, she has another year or so of touring ahead and I dare say another 2/3 singles.

Of course it'll be front loaded and realistically she's not going to double it, but there's still milage left in the campaign if they play their cards right.

There's also the possibility of a re-release/EP, so who knows.

I think the reason that she's considered a flop is simply because of the hype around her, and her fans bigging her up at every opportunity when she really doesn't deserve it. The thing is, is that her album was expected to be the biggest selling album of the year & her singles selling by the bucketload and it really hasn't worked out like that, her album nor her singles have topped the UK chart meaning that, she's still in the big league however, she's no bigger than Katy Perry, Rihanna or Adele.

Personally I really don't like any of her new songs, I thought The Fame Monster was brilliant but after Born This Way hit the radio I couldn't be bothered with her music hence I never bothered buying it, kinda glad I did, I've seen nothing I'd call special on the album.

Well said @JordanC55! Of course selling 5.5m is jolly good but I'm one of those who think BTW hasn't delivered considering the hype behind the album, her status when it was released and the general praise from the critics. To echo other posters, too many fans are quick to use these facts to prove her 'detractors' wrong but she hardly set the world on fire with this album unlike Adele with a sophomore album who was never considered the most anticipated album at the time of its release. And Rihanna or Katy Perry might have sold nearly the same amount over a longer period but none of them decided to cheapen their product for a 99c trash deal with Amazon for a week. What will be interesting to know is how much of her 5.5m she sold in the US?

I remember some people said this wouldn't pass 5 million by the end of the year. For the people who say she's not selling as much as before, BTW is selling faster than TF. TF would have reached 6 or 7 million after all was said if it wasn't for its rerelease with TFM, something that BTW would reach without a rerelease (I don't know if there will be one).

For the ones who say the album is crap, such a shame that it's one of the most critically acclaimed pop albums of the year by professional critics.

Odd I remember people saying it would sell 5 million in two months!! Infact I was searching the forum the other day and seen a thread about it on here from a Gaga fan called Seeking Amy I think.

It's sound around 1.7 - 1.8 Million in the US I think.
