You might not have, but he (along with John Renbourn) was incredibly influential. Jimmy Page owes him a great debt.

Not really that surprising when the majority of those on DS only seem to want to know about Gaga and Britney when it comes to music. The idea that this is a 'music' forum is a complete joke.

Bert Jansch was a great guitarist and musician, who influenced many, including Jimmy Page, Paul Simon, Johnny Marr, Neil Young and so many others.

RIP Bert.

Thanks for posting OP - we were very in our house yesterday and spent the day listening to him. It's sad how little of his early solo material is up on youtube - here are my favourites from what I could find

Needle of Death

Running From Home

I've been looking for his cover of "You Are My Sunshine", it was on Santa Barbara Honeymoon but can't find it anywhere, I used to sing it to my son when he was tiny and funnily enough he remembers me doing that and how sad it made him (the song, that is, though possibly also my singing ). I used to have his vinyls, back in the day, but they're long gone, what an awful shame

I heard Bert Jansch play live, solo, in the late 60's. He was great. He played Needle of Death then.

with respect, this attitude irritates me, if you arent interested in gaga or britney, then please start a thread to discuss other music! the fanboys domination of this forum only exists because people dont contribute other topics!

thats what i did....

Because I've long since realized it's totally pointless doing that on DS music forums, and more often than not a rather lonely waste of time. What gets discussed on DS is mainly mindless, inane crud, and it ain't likely to change anytime soon.

i beg to differ... i started two threads (rare 60's and rare 70's) over a year ago that are still running and are rarely out the top few pages. id suggest that there ARE plenty of adults, older, more knowlegable people who often look in on here who would welcome a deeper thread.

my point stands.... start a thread or stop moaning!
