Just noticed recently that Jack and Diane's wedding episode is to be an hour long special on Tuesday, so presumably it goes up against EE.

If that's the case what will you be watching? Hopefully Emm will come out on top since it's not an regular episode but I'm not sure what's going on in EE next week...

Easy decision Emmerdale - i don't even remember Eastenders is on when they go head to head.

The chemistry between all the blackstock family is really good - and steph is going even more psychotic next week.

Now what was it...Oh yes ratings don't matter it doesn't show the quality of a soap according to most forum members. So even if EastEnders does get low ratings, what does this mean? Well nothing if it's name was Corrie.

Well actually, when two soaps go head to head on the main two channels, the outcome is a bit more relevant than say, a big soap Vs Family Affairs. Besides, it's interesting if you ask me and I think if Emmerdale DOES "win" it will be because it's a decent episode - they've been against each other before, and when Emm has lost it's because it's an ordinary episode. And an ordinary Emmerdale episode against EE will struggle to beat it because EE is watched by more people unfortunately. On the otherhand it has a better chance these days since EE is, well, utter rubbish and many fans will be tempted to stick with Emmerdale. We'll see though. It all depends on how good the FIRST half of Emmerdale is...

Oh it's just harmless FUN. I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in the outcome, it's not like we're gonna be saying, "Ha ha, we've won," or vice versa

I don't know. if Emmerdale does come out on top, then I can almost smell the posts on here which are going to blurt out stuff like "deadenders is rubbish see no1 is watchin it axe it now". I know that's a hearsay precedent, but still. if past experience is anything to go by.

incidentally, I feel ther urge to poin out [and I hope i'm not stoking the fire in saying this] that Emmerdale only actually beat EastEnders in one of the three weeks they went head-to-head in May. it isn't like in 2004, which has been EastEnders weakest year on record by far, Emmerdale has actually posed a continued clear and present threat, however much the exec producer wishes to 'leapfrog' EastEnders into second place.

Well obviously certain people will be pleased depending on who wins, but it's not something worth making a HUGE deal of because, quality of the shows aside, Emmerdale has several thnigs in its favour when they do these hour episodes, mostly the fact it starts half hour beforehand...

Still, it does provide a small indication of things and if Emmerdale does win by any reasonable margin like the one time in May, it will be because the episode is worth sticking with. As you say, they've only beat them the once this year, the whole ratings thing has been blown out of proportion.
I do beleive Emmerdale CAN overtake EE as a whole though if they put the effort in . That's what they plan on doing and if you ask me they're on the right track. It's not like their normal episodes are miles behind ratings wise...

Emmerdale will PROBABLY get higher, though it doesn't really matter, because if EE had an hour special that gripped viewers in on the first half it would be the same.

The only difference from last time is that EE will definantly get higher than 6 million as they did before. It'll probably be about 8 million, which considering its up against an hour special isn't too poor.

I'll probably watch the whole of Emmerdale and then EE on BBC Three at 10pm.

What is all the nonsense about ratings anyway? Pretty much everyone has a VCR,probably two. That is aside from repeats on digital channels and omnibus editions.Nobody has to make a choice about what they watch, only when they watch it.

Won't most people just watch Eastenders on BBC3 at 10? There's no need to miss either so I think this rivalry thing is a bit daft! Of course most people will watch Emmerdale when they can just watch Eastenders a couple of hours later anyway???
