Please stop the RUBBISH No.1s!!!!
I thought Cher Lloyd, JLS & Dev and Dappy's diabolical tracks were bad enough, but Sak Noel's absolute crog of sh#t hits an all time low for me.
The only reason it got to the top is because it has a swear word in its chorus and the kids therefroe think its cool. What happened to a variety of No.1s and there actually being GOOD songs at the top? UK music scene is at its worst. 2011 = worst year ever for music (barring Adele). PLEASE, no more cr#p!!!! Rant over

No rant intended, but it's indeed a pity.Out of all the countries, the UK has some fantastic music which is all buried under the radar and never makes it into mainstream (so people call it "underground" ).The charts, and especially the No.1's, do not represent the overall UK music scene at all.I ignore most of the UK No.1's tbh. They're so cheap and disposable, no flavour or taste at all...

I think your paying too much attention to a song getting to number one.
Many songs that have been released this year that have (so far) failed to get to number one (Born this Way, Move Like Jagger) have sold a lot more than most of them and will be remembered a lot longer after a lot of them as well. Admittedly, mass appeal number ones (ie wide range of age groups interest) are a rarity these days, but this has been the case for the last 20 years, so it's nothing new. Neither is some big end of summer season euro dance number being number one despite it being rubbish-thats been the case since the first package holiday flight touched down in Benidorm all those years ago in the mid 1970s. |

Sak Noel didn't get to the top because it has a swear word in it
It's been number 1 all over Europe. It's just a eurodance song which now and again is extremely popular. I downloaded the clean version as I really like the tune |

Compared to all the crap in the charts (not saying this song is good) it's nice to hear something reminisent of the 90's!

I hope that Moves Like Jagger gets to #1 this week. I love her, but Rihanna and We Found Love is an absolute state.

Number 1s have been bad for years, I don't think anyone really uses them as a measure of talent or quality. Mr Blobby, Bob the Builder and Teletubbies all got to number one in the past. Occasionally you get good songs going to number 1 like Adele or Elton John, but mainly the charts are just filled with computer generated crap with a good song here and there. It's hardly worth following the charts.

I agree with the OP. The last few Number Ones have been awful. MLJ could do it this weekend though. That's a good song.

I'm not convinced that the entire "UK music scene" can be judged based on what gets to no 1 in the singles charts tbh.

Trying to actually think of the last decent number one, in fact number one's are pointless, the next coming weeks it'll be filled full of acts who appeared on X Factor followed by who ever they did wins this year. In fact looking back, it appears Rage Against the Machine are still the last decent act with a decent number 1... and no Adele's song is not decent, I'm surprised the amount of people jumping out off buildings hasn't increased with that depressing song. |

If MLJ gets to number one, then the phrase ;UK Number 1's are still awful' can apply. Terrible repetitive song aimed at people who can only intake two beats at a time.

People are entitled to listen to rubbish music if they want to. It doesn't mean you have to. Think of it like McDonalds: just because it's cheap and convenient and other people like it doesn't mean you have to consume it if you don't want to.
There is something like 80 years worth of recorded music for you to explore, from all over the world and it's never been as available as it is now. Go out and find some that means something to YOU. |

I don't think this year has been much different to any other year.
there has long been a tradition of euro-dance songs being big hits straight after people have come back from their holidays. in a few weeks we'll be awash in dramatic ballads for the Winter market...then come Mothers day every old has-been will have a covers album out...its the way of the music world! |

Me, personally, I've really liked a lot of the #1s this year. I've also hated a lot though, and 2011 is one of my least favourite years for chart music in my lifetime, along with 2009. My favourite years were 2003 and 2007. |

The UK number 1 has been dreadful for a long time. But teenagers insist on buying this rubbish. In their eyes 'Dappy' is the greatest singer to ever live! zzz. Music nowerdays is just awful. Long live the brilliance of the 80s.

A lot of the other artists that got #1s this year have talent. Drake, Afrojack, Wretch 32, DJ Fresh and Ne-Yo are very talented. They may not be overweight, but that doesn't mean they aren't good at compsing music or writing lyrics.

Drake and Ne-yo both have a lot of talent, but the others you listed do not. Sorry.
