I ordered a 16Gb at about 9.30. Got the confirmation email before 10. The site was a bit slow and I had to refresh the 'processing' page but the order had gone through ok.

As for cases, I just want a slip case so I'm probably going to get one of these

What cases (or other extras) are people getting?

I would like a case that can also hold at least 2cards, and suggestions. I have a great 'casemate' one on my 3gs and it looks great.”

I was going to buy the bumper to go with my new 32GB black 4S but i think there will be better options out there for the £26 Apple wanted!, I like the idea of having card slots!... didn't know cases did that,

Also got a really nice DAB2 radio/iPhone dock for my birthday a few weeks ago and its amazing sound with my 3GS

I ordered my 64gb white 4S at 8.45am (after trying to get on the site from before 8am!) and had the confirmation email by 9.45am-ish. Have already got my o2 simplicity tariff sorted (a third of what I'm paying for my 16gb 3GS, which I've had on contract for 2yrs), and a free micro-sim on the way. And by the time I take into account the money I'll get for recycling the 3GS, it doesn't feel so bad!

Is going to be a fantastic b'day pressie for myself, and I have the day off so I can sit and play to my heart's content

What is the first thing you are going to say to Siri?

I decided on this case and this skin to protect the glass and this dock for the phone (in its case) and my ipad.

up to £141.02 for a 3GS 16G

I bet they haven't...

In your view, and I can live with that

I made up my mind a while ago that I was going to go for the biggest memory available, and have sat down this afternoon to look at how much that would cost me on contract, given that I can cancel my order with Apple if I want to.

Using voda prices, for approx the same mins/texts/data as I'm getting on o2

24mo @ £41 = £984
Plus handset cost of £219
Total £1,203

And on a 12mo voda contract (which is the same length as my o2 simplicity deal)

12mo @46 = £552
Plus handset cost of £359
Total £911

My o2 simplicity bundle is £20/mo for 12 mo, so including the handset cost works out slightly more than the voda deal (£984), but given that I can afford to pay for the handset as a one-off, and consequently reduce my monthly outgoings (I'm on a short term contract till just before Xmas - no idea what'll happen after that), trying to manage £20 a month for the phone will be easier than almost £50!!

ETA, and if you include the money I can get for recycling my 16gb 3GS (best offer currently is £135), going sim-free is cheaper

In your view, and that's cool with me

I get a bonus from work each year; last year I treated myself to a DSLR, and this year it's a new phone. Will prob be the last bonus I get for a while, and see no harm in treating myself, seeing as I can put food on the table and have no dependants to worry about.

Not going to feel guilty for being able to spoil myself once in a while!!

How many people are going from iPhone 4 to 4S?

i really cant see it being worth it. dual core in a phone is way before its time IMO

I think that'll be one of the routes I'll go down.

I have a crack on mine and a few chips Not to mention the scratches after 2years of it...

I assume noone will want it so I'm not too fussed with selling it on a site like that.

The iPhone 4S pre-orders and launch

Worse than last year:

Apple doesn't seem to be doing online reservations for collection in-store this year, just SIM free online pre-orders for delivery.

Better than last year:

Vodafone, T-Mobile, Orange and Three have all actually put price and tariff info on their websites, and started taking pre-orders. [When the 4 was announced last year, it was - IIRC - days *after* Apple's pre-orders and reservations went up before *any* of the networks announced any price or tariff info, and I don't think any of them did pre-orders]

The same as last year:

O2 has done naff all. O2's site does at least mention the 4S, but just says it's out on the 14th, no tariff info or up-front prices are given yet LAME

-----------------------------------

Looking at the tariffs and prices available so far, Three looks the best to me. e.g. 24 month contract for the 16GB 4S: Three (£35, 2000 mins) gives more minutes than T-Mobile/Orange (£35.75/£36, 600 mins) and Vodafone (£36, 600 mins), and truly unlimited data (rather than 500MB like the other three). T-Mobile & Orange look next best, due to having a lower up-front cost for the phone than Vodafone. OK, Vodafone is currently offering £59 back, which brings it down to £100 upfront compared to £99 upfront with Three or £99.99 upfront with T-Mobile/Orange, but only if you pre-order today...

Of course, although Three has the best tariffs, and the best 3G network, I've only ever heard bad things about its customer service, and I know various people who'd never use Three because of its rep.

If it wasn't for the bad rep, I'd switch to Three.

As it is, I think I'll switch to Tesco... if it does similar prices/tariffs to last year. Tesco Mobile was very competitive last year for the iPhone 4, and offered 12 month contracts that weren't a joke.

My current 18 month O2 contract costs £35 per month (well, £35.something 'cos of the VAT change). 300 minutes, "unlimited" SMS, and 500MB data. The upfront cost of the 16GB iPhone 4 was £179.

IIRC, the equivalent 18 month Vodafone contract at the time for the 16GB iPhone 4 was pretty much identical... but 1GB of data and an upfront cost of £169.

I stayed with O2 due to inertia and also not being too bothered by the data. Easier to just stay put.

This year, the closest 18month contract with Vodafone, for a 16GB 4S, is £36 per month, with an upfront cost of £259, 300 minutes, "unlimited" SMS, and 500MB of data. To get a similar upfront cost as to last year, you have to either go up a tier to £41 per month, or sign up for 24 months instead of 18 months.

As Vodafone's offerings are worse than last year, I expect O2's to be worse...

Hmm. I was wrong. While Vodafone has ramped up the upfront cost, O2's prices are still fairly comparable to last year.

Posted this in the "UK pricing" thread, but it's worth putting it here too (even though O2 isn't doing pre-orders ).

O2 has finally put some information up!

http://www.o2.co.uk/iphone/iphonetariffs/

Prices are similar to the rest, e.g.

- 24 month contract at £31 per month for 600 mins plus "unlimited" SMS, with a £6 per month 500MB Data Bolt On (O2 split the data off a while back) [£37 per month total]: 16GB 4S costs £99 up front.

- 18 month contract at £31 per month for 600 mins plus "unlimited" SMS, with a £6 per month 500MB Data Bolt On [£37 per month total]: 16GB 4S costs £169.99 up front.

Data Bolt Ons include the "Visual Voicemail" and also tethering (tethering used to be a separate thing).

Existing customers can also choose from a range of 12 month contracts.

So, if you compare:

e.g. a 24 month "~£35ish" contract, you get 600 minutes, "unlimited" SMS, and 500MB data from O2 for £37, Orange for £36, T-Mobile for £35.75, and Vodafone for £36. Upfront cost of a 16GB 4S with each is £99 for O2, £99.99 for Orange and T-Mobile, and £159 for Vodafone (who will give £59 back, but only if pre-ordered today, according to the site). With Three, it's £35 per month for 2000 minutes, 5000 SMS, and truly unlimited data, with an upfront cost of £99.

I can't decided between 16 and 32 GB. It's the only thing holding me back from pre-ordering

Can anyone help me decide?

I went for the 16g (thats what I have at the moment). I found I don't need more (especially at that price). It is easy to take stuff off and on and with iTunes cloud coming even more reason.

Much of it is like renting a Sky box with the latest kit supplied free every couple of years.

With such an expanded market it is near impossible to have a launch like days of old, so I guess that the networks are now the main fillip to sales.

O2 have told me I can upgrade for £270. My contract still has 7 months to run.

Has anyone managed to order via the Three website? Tried 4 times since yesterday afternoon and every time I've just been shown this after hitting the final confirmation, getting a bit annoyed!
