Did anyone here used to watch it when it was on in the UK? I know its been taken off in most regions (If not all), which is such a shame because NZ episodes are quite good at the moment, best they have been in five years.

I used to like that.It was taken off in our region quite a while ago.I think they were on the way to a wedding and there was a car crash ,so never found out what happened to any of them.

Are Nick and Waverly still in it. How about Donna ?
I think someone should seed it on Bittorrent or something as it's definitely one the best soaps, much much better than ER.

Nick and Waverley are still in it, happily married for two years now and have just had their first child Tina. Waverley's also rasing Nick's son Lucas from his relationship with the late Angela.

Donna left the show about two months ago after seven years. She had been looking after her step-daughter Tasha (The daughter of Donna's late husband Rangi), but then Tasha's mum returned and wanted to take her to Australia. Donna decided to go with them.

Chris is still on the show.

However Rachel left in February 2003. She fell off the wagon again, and while she was off drinking, Chris fell in love with Donna. Rachel decided to leave after learning Chris and Donna were together,

Donna and Chris have since broken up as well, and Donna got together with Victor before she left with Tasha.

Kiwi soap opera Shortland Street better than NBC goliath drama ER? Nah. That was a good joke though msf

My girlfriend adores this show and has a friend who sends her episodes over the net, its a decent soap, but to compare it to even a quality US drama series that despite having lost its way a bit is madness!!!!!

I think you can safely say SS will never be shownon ITV ever again, Central were the ones that showed it the longest I think, but when they merged with Granada (?) they had to axe it. Basically the current ITV policy is to show only rubbish self-produced programs and James Bond movies.
That's why they stopped showing Home & Away, Blue Heelers,Shortland Street...
Before long, they'll be airing 7 episodes of Corrie and 7 episodes of Emmerdale a week, a James Bond movie every Wednesday and Sunday, outake programs several times a day, and the rest will be reality TV and lifestyle programs. In fact they're almost there already !!!
Nowadays all I watch on ITV is Corrie (when it's good).

Maybe it's for the best though, that they are not showing SS anymore as all they seem to do with foreign programs and movies is to remove all the scenes they deem "immoral", they never showed the rape storyline in SS, the movies are half their original length, they had to show 2 episodes of Home & Away to fill a half-hour slot....
I just hope Five will buy SS one day (to replace Family Affairs for example) as they are doing a good job with Home & Away (except for the FA promos during the end credits)

I used to love Shortland Street when ITV showed it – however it was rather poor towards the end IMHO when they got rid of characters like Tamsin, Kate, Rangi, Moria, Minnie in New Zealand in the 2001 season, and replaced them with rubbish characters. My fave characters were Kirsty, Rachel, Waverly, Donna, Tiffany, Matt, James, Tamsin and Minnie.

I agree that there is no chance ITV will show it again in the UK, unless they network it. Central was the main ITV region who showed it consistently for 10 years (1993-2003), HTV also showed it from 1994-2002 (axed at ep 1598) then joined up with Central storys), Meridian from 1993-01 (axed at ep 1625)then showed it just on a Friday during 2002, Anglia from 1994-01 (axed at ep 1749). The other regions either axed it very early on or never showed it in the first place. Granada axed it in December 1998 after 1032 eps, and London showed it for about 18 months between 1995-7 and then axed it, then brought it back for 8 months in line with Central storylines.

Also does anyone remember the episode where Tiffany Warner (nee Pratt) fell to her death from the top of a building – that was a very sad episode IMO.

of course I do, I also remember her parents were horrible and her husband was a weirdo
Angela's death was even sadder, and they used that special piano tune for the end credits.

some of my favourite characters were Nick, Waverley, Rangi, Fergus, Tamsin, Angela, Minnie, Mike, Beanie, and Helen.
Does anyone remember that old woman who also was in Neighbours as Harold's girlfriend ? I think she was the chief of some health service, that was when they merged with Central (the hospital not the ITV region) or something.

Maybe we should start emailing Five, eh ?

I really wouldn't be surprised if SS went onto Five. They've been listening to viewers alot lately, probably because they know they're guarenteed a few viewers if they do show the viewers requests. Well done Five!

Soap viewers may die of happiness if SS comes back: first Sunset Beach and General Hospital..!

Angela’s death was horrible. It was so sad when Nick came in with Lucas and realised she was gone. Baby Rose’s death was really sad, and that had the sad music on the credits too.

Remember the car accident that happened back in 1994? Steve Mills, TP (Sam’s wife) Chris Warner and Kirsty were all travelling in a car together and Steve was driving. Chris and Steve were arguing as Steve had just found out that Chris was the father of Carrie’s triplets. Then they crashed and Chris was thrown out of the car and had stopped breathing, Steve got him breathing again and went to get TP out who was trapped, just then Sam arrived and Kirsty and Sam watched as the car exploded and Steve and TP were killed. It was very sad.

Yes he came back for some episodes in Septemebr 2002. Nick and Waverley were about to elope and she was on her way to the registry office when Fergus turned up and kidnapped her and tried to convince her not to marry Nick. Waverley told Fergus that she wasn't in love with him anymore and then Chris, Donna, Nick and Waverley managed to help Fergus escape the cops again. Nick and Waverley got married a month later in October.

Yes, I hated when they did the big cast change...there was no need to get rid of so many characters. However since then the new characters have settled in and as such the show has gotten better. I still wish they had kept Minnie, Kate (Although she was one of the few that actually left of her own accord as with Rangi), Rangi, Moira and Tamsin.

Other characters I really liked were Fergus (he was hot!), Jim Callan (he was hot too!) Jenny, Marj, Joanna Jordan, Caroline Buxton and Bridget Hastings.

I think the person you mention was Patricia Hewitt in Shortland Street (played by Maureen Edwards), her son Jack was rather yummy too, one of the few things that was good about SS in 2001.

Yes, I heard originally that Kate and Rangi were 2 of the people that were to actually stay. That’s why they had to write Rangi out rather suddenly. I agree that it was right for some of the cast to move on like Frank and Alan, but why they had to get rid of Moria, Tamsin, Minnie and Fergus I don’t know.

Minnie and Angela were hot. Waverley is all right too.
I didn't like Caroline and Moira at all.
