Hi,

I have a Philips DVD Recorder / VCR - model DVDR3510V - which has been of great use over the years. However, the DVD tray has stopped opening. Does anyone have any idea if there is any way to get it to open? I was hoping that there was a quick fix (like on a pc when a disc tray won't open) but I can't seem to see one. When I try to play a DVD, it says that there isn't one in, so I suspect that the mechanism for playing the DVDs is still OK. It is just the mechanism that opens and shuts the tray that is not working. Once I get it open, I might be able to grease it to make it work if it is just a sticking problem.

Thanks

Debra

You will probably have to remove the top section of the case by unscrewing to get access to the tray mechanism.

Common fault, turn off the power and look underneath the machine and you will see a 2 inch long slot. Look into the slot and you will see a small white plastic piece, using a fine screwdriver slide it to the other end of the slot and this will open the tray.

The cause is a stretched drive belt which requires some disassembly of the DVD loader to replace. Take it to your local reapirer, shouldn't cost more than £50 to fix. Don't go slapping grease willy nilly or spraying WD40 over it, you will make matters worse.

Thank you so much for that. So far so good. Now all I have to do is find the remote control for the unit which hasn't been seen for ages!! Any suggestions on that???!!!

Found this on ebay, not a fan of copies but it's cheap enough.

A little tip for you, provided the belt is not too far gone as long as you don't close the tray without a disc in it should open and close OK.
