DJ Equipment Question
I have a set of speakers (with handle) and an amp with 2 mic inputs and 2 mics. My dad is on about using it for parties and etc and he wants me to find out how i can use a TV to show words from songs as they play. I have seen such a device but where do i get one and how do i set it up?

If your amp only has mic inputs then you're out of luck. You need something with line inputs to take a mixed signal of mic(s) and backing track for sound. The words will come from either a Karaoke disc player or a PC running karaoke software.
"Sax and Dotty" is a popular software package for running a basic karaoke show. A lot of KDJs use it. If it's just dicking about at home then have a look at the various free packages available to download. If the idea of running a PC for a bit of karaoke is scary for your dad then have a look at a Karaoke Disc Player. This has the advantage of mixing mic inputs with echo and background music and outputting the whole lot to a suitable amp. The most basic type is the CD+G disc player. CD+G discs have the music plus a plain video background with the words. The other type is Video karaoke which is like subtitles on a TV programme. I've bought for some of my customers from East Midlands Karaoke. They know what they are doing. Other vendors are available. |

I'll be the one using it as its mine so he won't have to worry
![]() I have looked at the amp and on the back it has phono inputs for CD/VCD and AC-3 as well as a Line Out and a 3.5mm AUX jack. These Karaoke Disc Players that play CD+G i take it they output the words to any plain TV with SCART yes? |

Sort of.... Most of the players come in from China or Japan, so SCART sockets are rare. What you'll do is use a phono to SCART cable. It'll give the same result.

Your original post only mentioned mic inputs which are totally unsuitable for line level devices such as a CD player. But if it has inputs on phono sockets for a CD player or similar then it will be OK.
You can get Karaoke machines with SCART, eg this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/5-DISC-DVD-P...093200&sr=1-21 |
