Sugababes- One of the greatest british girlbands off all time!!
Obviously..not with its current line up!
Was listening to angels with dirty faces, and 3 and honestly i think they were brilliant pop records with an rnb edge..they really had their own sound, and vocaly i think mutya, heidi and keisha just really gelled, all had great vocals..their early stuff wouldnt put a patch on the likes of those girls aloud or even the spice girls in their time.. Nowdays--just another bland electropop girlband!!!! |

Agreed with the title, disagree with everything you said about 4.0
I think you should wait until they release their first proper album as a line-up to judge because 'Sweet 7' was recorded by the 3rd line-up and then Jade came around weeks before its release and replaced Keisha's vocals, so it's not 100% a 4.0. album. They said they want to bring the edgy and "dirty" sound of the Sugababes back.

They WERE one of our best girlbands
They are my top british girlband of all time. Amazing range of hits. Dirty faces and Taller are great pop albums. For me, Dirty faces is a girlband classic. I even loved Sweet 7 but it's a very manufactured album though. It's a shame where they have ended up. |

I really dont get the hype with "Angels" personally I hated it, i found it boring, I like maybe five songs, Three was the album that got me into the sugababes, loved it, i loved Taller in more ways even more, Change was great, I dont get the hate for Catfights, i loved that album, a very cohesive piece of work, Sweet 7 wasnt that generic, it had generic instrumentals but lyrically songs like Thank you for theartbreak and Little miss perfect were rather original.

The new line-up isn't terrible, there is just nothing interesting about them. None but Jade can really sing, and even she isn't above average. There are no writers left in the group - Siobhan and Keisha are both writers, the latter actually being very good if you look at her solo stuff.
Sugababes 4.0 are just leftovers that have gone stale. I don't think they will have any sort of mention able success with this new album, but they are free to shut me up if they can. |

I did think sweet 7 was better than change and catfights and spotlights tbh. I do thionk both amelle and jade have great voices, but for me, it doesnt gell, and their sound imo is now just the same as every other girlband..the same tired dancey electro sound, where as back in 2002-2006 era they were different, cool and stood out..i mean im not even a fan of todays music, girlbands and all that.id rather the beatles and fleetwood mac any day of the week, but back in the day they were one of the few artists/groups around that caught my attention.
After how simply boring 3.0. were, I think that the new line-up is pretty good. They are all good vocalists and 'Freedom' is not generic and even those 2 things are more than I can say for most other girlbands that emerged during the last 5 years 'Freedom' was a good first step, but their album might be surpisingly good. You never know...

With the orignial lineup they were. Can't help thinking that Heidi kinda of pushed Keisha out because it was easier to ger rid of her with Mutya gone.

Mutya was a two faced snake, her singing is good but she couldnt wait to blame Heidi when she had no idea what was going on, she forfeited any right she had to the name when she left them during a vital period of their career. |

Keisha was bullying Amelle, Amelle quit and Heidi sided with her so left as well, the management decided to ditch Keisha because a) she was a bitch and b) it would have been much harder to introduce two new members instead of one.

I wholeheartedly agree with what you just posted. You seem very level headed and yes, none of the originals deserve the name except Siobhan.

Yup, great performance! And while I think Keisha has a class voice (youtube one of her solo demos 'Fearless' - outstanding vocal in that song), I prefer the blend of 4.0 a little bit more. Keisha's was too strong to the point of overpowering the other 2 whilst Jade's just mixes nicely.
But she used to oversing a lot when she was in the band.Sometimes less is more and I would personally prefer tracks like 'Follow Me Home' without her over the top adlibs.Anyway, 4.0 execute their harmonies very well. Can't wait for their first ballad (I don't count S7 tracks as theirs )

Yeah they were..i think the new line up could work..just everything seems a bit messed up at the moment..releasing their single for free? Now it won't chart, they should of gone on some shows like Jonathan Ross, etc.

Haha, thanks! You to seem level headed, Siobhan is very talented, but I cant help but feel that she wasnt really a Sugababe, she obviously was there originally but she wasnt there for any of the actual success, she's only on one album, I do absolutely adore her solo work though.
Each group is a business. Businesses change owners all the time, so why shouldn't bands change members..... |

Er? Amelle would disagree with you, seeing as she was a songwriter before joining the group.

Whatever you think of Keisha and Mutya, they made what the Sugababes were. Their voices and their attitude. |

Completely agree. As for whoever said that 4.0 "want to bring the edgier, dirtier sound back" - you mean the sound that was never theirs and still isn't?

Their voices and their attitude. .Now, 4.0 may not be what you want to call "original members" but if they are willing to be creative, like the original Sugababes, edgy, like the original Sugababes, unusual, like the original Sugababes and brave, like the original Sugababes then I couldn't care less if they ARE the original Sugababes. They are willing to try to represent the brand properly and I appreciate that.I will always love 2.0 as a band, but in their current situation, Mutya and Keisha should not be mentioned because they harmed the brand even more than Heidi, Amelle and Jade by making the wrong decisions while they were IN the band and by trying to be celebrities now and messing up their solo career.Give the "new" girls a chance to evolve. They will never be the Sugababes, but they can represent the Sugababes and that should be enough for everyone to give them a chance

I was the one who mentioned it and this "they don't own the sound" stuff is a mess. They have the right to use the sound, especially Heidi who was in the group when their dirty and edgy sound became successful and Amelle who was accepted by Keisha and who re-recorded the "original" songs with the "original" sound because Keisha wanted her to do so.I don't get why they're discredited.Your beloved Keisha was the chief in 3.0, yet I didn't hear the signature Sugababes sound

It just sounds bitter and actually I have no interest in her whatsoever I have not followed her solo career, just think (and it appears that I'm in the majority considering it seems very few people are actually interested in 4.0) that The Sugababes disappeared the days Mutya and Keisha left. Bringing back that sound would require restoring those two band members. 4.0 can "represent" the Sugababes? You make them sound like a tribute band, which funnily enough, that's sort of what they are now

Their sound was "dirty and edgy" as far back as 1.0 so Heidi just came in at the right time - she had no input in it IMO. She may have been in the group when they performed some of the songs, but that identifiable "edgy dirty" sound is an ORIGINAL Sugababes feature, and one that Amelle and Jade in particular had absolutely nothing to do with. "Bringing it back" sounds stupid because it wasn't theirs in the first place - nor Heidi's. It was Mutya and Keisha who made that style The Sugababes.

You make them sound like a tribute band, which funnily enough, that's sort of what they are now ![]() ![]() The "original sound" belongs to Keisha, Mutya and Siobhan who recorded it first and also Heidi who was there to make it popular along with Mutya and Keisha,Since Hieid was in the band during the spreading, the glory and the peak of that sound then I don't understand why she doesn't own it... Anyway, 4.0 were a hot mess in 2010, but 'Freedom' is the closest any line-up has got to the Sugababes sound since 'Red Dress'.People think that 'Change' was their signature sound just because it was successful, but the truth is that both 'Change' and 'Catfights' were a lot less special and unique than 'Angels...', '3' and 'TIMW', so the destruction of that sound started when Keisha was still IN the band (being the leader) 4.0 seem like a tribute band now because they don't have a large back catalogue of their own, but when they release their own music, it may all make more sense. But EVEN IF they are a tribute band, they definetely do the band more justice than 3.0 did and MUCH more justice than the new Mutya (and her embarassingly sloppy material) and the new Keisha (whose career has been a non-starter for almost 2 years even though has been raving about her material).Since all 3 "original" members CANNOT represent the band anymore (Siobhan choosing to be out of the spotlight, Keisha recording without releasing anything and being obviously bitter and Mutya making a fool out of herself and destroying her reputation constantly), we can all just accept 4.0.You don't have to love them, like them or support them, just accept that for now they're the closest thing we have to the Sugababes, if you don't want to call them THE Sugababes

I love sugababes, all of the generations. My favourite was by far when Mutya and Keisha was in the group as I loved their voices, they had smoething unique. I do like Jade and Amelle and I still like the sugarbabes music but not as much.
