Ben C - Corrie Request
Think you can name the biggest storyline for every year in the past? i.e 2004 - Baby Drama or whatever. I'm interested.

Do you mean the biggest storyline of all the soaps for each year? Do you want opinions or is there a list somewhere?

OK here goes....I'm using a book here to help me!
Obviously some years carried much mroe dramatic storylines than others, those I feel to have been particularly important are in bold print. 1960 - Death of May Hardman (the first Street death) 1961 - Death of Ida Barlow (Ken's mam), 1962 - Ken's wedding to Valerie Tatlock (Peter Barlow's mother), kidnapping of baby Christopher Hewitt 1963 - Sheila Birtles' suicide bid (wasn't as graphic as had first been planned) 1964 - Martha Longhurst's death, the arrival of the Ogdens 1965 - Birth of twins Peter & Susan Barlow 1966 - Ken's affair with Jackie Marsh 1967 - Coronation Street Train Crash, Elsie Tanner's marriage to american Steve Tanner 1968 - Demolition of Ena Sharples' "Mission of Glad Tidings Hall", murder of Steve Tanner 1969 - Coach Crash, involving most of the residents - first colour episode 1970 - Death of Joe Donnelli (after taking Irma & Stan Ogden and Minne Caldwell hostage in Number5 - Joe had killed Steve Tanner in 1968) 1971 - Death of Valerie Barlow 1972 - Emily's marriage to Ernest Bishop 1973 - (First) departure of Elsie Tanner 1974 - Revelation that Betty Turpin was the mother of Gordon Clegg, not her sister Maggie. 1975 - Warehouse Fire 1976 - The Ogdens get their first "Muriel" 1977 - Birth of Tracy Langton (Barlow) 1978 - Murder of Ernest Bishop 1979 - Gail Potter marries Brian Tilsley, Lorry crashes into the Rovers 1980 - Emily Bishop marries a bigamist, Renee Roberts is killed in a car crash 1981 - Ken marries Deirdre 1982 - Start of Deirdre's affair with Mike Baldwin 1983 - The infamous Mike/Deirdre/Ken affair, death of Len Fairclough 1984 - Final departure of Elsie Tanner, Death of Stan Ogden 1985 - Audrey marries Alf Roberts 1986 - Mike marries Ken's daughter Susan - Ken & Mike come to blows 1987 - Departure of Hilda Ogden, Birth of Sarah-Louise Platt, Gail is unsure about the paternity of her child 1988 - Build-up of Alan Bradley & Rita 1989 - Death of Alan Bradley under the wheels of a tram 1990 - Rosie Webster and David Platt born 1991- Gail & Martin Platt marry 1992 - Katie McDonald dies (Liz and Jim's baby daughter) 1993 - Lisa Duckworth run over in the Street 1994 - Deirdre Barlow takes a toy-boy - Samir Rachid 1995 - Departure of Bet Gilroy, Samir Rachid murdered (Tracy's transplant etc) 1996 - Raquel's depature 1997 - Arrival of the Battersbys, Don Brennan's suicide (and driving Alma into the Irwell) 1998 - Shannon Tattersall dies of meningitis 1999 - Death of Alf Roberts 2000- Sarah-Louise Platt becomes pregnant at 13 2001 - Death of Alma 2002 - Begginnings of Richard Hillman 2003 - Culmination of Richard Hillman 2004 - You decide! |

Wow, some great storylines there, and some surprises too!
I'm surprised that Toyah's rape isn't on there as I remember that being quite a big storyline at the time, although I wasn't really watching Corrie then I stopped watching regularly in 2000, and only started watching regularly again in 2003 when the whole Richard thing culminated ![]() As for 2004.....I'd say that the biggest storyline (so far) has either been Tracy/Karen/Steve/Roy/Hayley or Todd/Karl/Sarah. 2004 has been an amazing year.
Tracy/Karen/Steve/Roy/Hayley was brilliant. The Gay Storyline was superb. Mad Maya is great too. Also, wheres the Bigamy storyline in there? |

Which bigamy storyline? Shelley/Peter/Lucy?
I chose to omit that because, even though they were brilliant, most storylines durinf 2003 were still overshadowed by Richard Hillman. |

Yeh I would agree, Richard outshone them all but how great was Corrie that year, The Culimination of Richard Hillman, Shelly/Peter/Lucy bigamy storyline Todd's first gay kiss with Nick Platt.
This year on Corrie has been fab I must say. Steve and Karen's Wedding Tracey/Roy/Hayley and the whole selling Amy fiasco. Mad Maya Loads of other stuff too. But I think the biggest storyline this year has been Sarah/Todd/Karl |

There also seems to be no end to the Karen/Amy/Tracy/Steve drama however I suspect everyone is waiting for Karen to lamp Tracy one soon baby or no baby. She has gained the sympathy vote what with her mam dying and the factory girls and most of the nation are rallying around her at the moment. |
