I don't usually buy apps from the marketplace, but thought I'd try some tonight, and thought I'd share...

I bought Tune In Radio Pro for 61p lol and it gives you access to hundreds of radio stations and even lets you record them!

The best one I got has to be Myplayer - £2 but gives you freeview on your mobile with channels like Film4 and E4 and lots of +1 channels like ITV2 and ITV3! Great for people like me without a flash enabled phone.

I was going to use Go SMS but can't get it to read numbers stored on my SIM - any ideas?

I also use Advance Task Killer, but even when killing apps, apps such as Sky News and Myplayer still appear in the list - I don't want any apps running unless I say so - any ideas?

Thanks
Also, share what apps you are pleased with!

Why do you need to kill tasks, then?

You don't need to use a task killer with Android. It is not Windows and doesn't work like Windows, thank god! . If it runs low on resources it will safely close any unused apps. Android knows better than you do about what it needs to be doing.

If you really, really must kill tasks for some strange reason, you would be better off with Android Assistant which does a whole lot more as well, but you still won't gain much by zapping stuff and may well make your phone unstable until you reboot it.

Look at these useful apps on the Android Market:

MyBackup Pro (or free 30 day non pro version)
ES File Explorer
SoundHound
Volume Locker (Shopriant)
VLC Remote (if you run VLC on your desktop)
Pure Grid Calendar
Opera Mini
LauncherPro and
LauncherPro Plus
Beautiful Widgets and
BW Animation Pack
Smooth Calendar

Another great internet radio app (IMO the best) is
Yourmuze.FM (which isn't an FM radio!)

I used to love Tune In Radio, but now even on my wi-fi it oftens stops working for minutes at a time.
I use iplayer for the bbc stations, though that's not much better as it no longer lets me use the 3G service, it insists on only working with wi-fi.
Using a Nexus 1 btw.

You have wasted your money on my player.

Tvcatchup.com allows you to watch all freeview channels for free and it's only a minute or so behind.

Go SMS is free, I use it all the time. It's somewhat pointless having numbers on a SIM card these days; storing them as Google contacts and having them backed up in the cloud is a far better solution. It's probably worth transferring them off your SIM, it will give you numerous advantages, not least that Go SMS will work properly for you.

How would I back them up as Google Contacts so they are saved online?

I wanted to keep them on my SIM aswell as my phone but for some reason my phone then displays both phone and sim contacts.

TV Catchup requires Flash which my phone hasn't got.

Ok Just managed to get all my SIM numbers on my phone and get the phone to not display contacts from SIM.

It did do something with Google - I think it uploaded all my numbers. How do I check via my PC and view all the numbers online so I know it has been done?

If they're not in your Google Contacts, then you have made them "Phone" contacts rather than "Google" contacts. I don't know that there is an easy way to turn these into Google Contacts...

(EDIT: Actually, there is. Backup your contacts, delete them, then Import them again under a Google Account. This will fix them).
