Of course the girl was better than the boy, but it makes for great telly to try to split them up, doesn't it?

It's all a sham anyway. Don't believe a word of it and just enjoy the (made up) ride.

YES!Somebody who knows something about music...you're bang on about the harmonies (having a degree in music I know a bit), the Diana Ross part (the girl) does the tune and Lionel (the boy) does the harmony.Didn't think the harmonies were out at all, in fact they were pretty much bang on. They sang it as the original, they didn't need to harmonise better as Simon said, the song doesn't require it. A lot of work went into their performance regarding little things like note lengths, dynamics etc.Simon may know his stuff when it comes to promotion, making money out of people and handing out criticism but he knows nothing about "music".Could Simon sing in three part harmony with the other two, does he know how a major ninth chord sounds, does he play instruments/sing?
Also found it funny that Sharon told a duo that they were "too Butlins", but Andy (the guy in the dungarees) has worked for Butlins for 5 years as a singer! ( has she been there in the last ten years?Has she ever been there?)

I think it is probably to do with the fact that Simon was BREAKING THE LAW in Ireland.

That part of the show was during the Dublin audtions and was held in a Dublin hotel. Smoking is banned in ALL workplaces (including hotels) in Ireland as of early 2004. Smokers must go outside any building to be able to smoke - it is illegal to smoke on public premises!!!

I think they may have blurred it to cover up his blatant disregard for the law!!!

That was the only reason what i could think of why Simons cig was blurred out because they were over in Dublin. As for the show overall i thought it was pretty good.I thought the blind boy had a good voice,Guy Fawkes this guy was a joke how in hell did he think he chance in this comp is beyond me & i thought it was nice of them to put through that 49 year old at the end.And if Gemini those twins from the first episode ever want to form a trio they should contact that Louise the Drama student who's performance in saturdays episode was bad.

there were loads of good acts but lots of discrepancies/foul-ups on the part of the producers apart from all the 'coming up next' fillers which drive me mad:

- they said it was their first day in leeds. it wasn't
- the guy fawkes bloke we saw in the first show
- there were some others but i can't remember them now as it's far too early

but why are they skipping around the country the way they are?

why not just show the things in the order they happened? and why do so many people who get through not get shown at all? do they want to surprise us in the next round or are they only following so many 'stories'??

and why oh why do i almost always agree with sharon?

The actual order of events is NOTHING like it is presented on the actual show. Even that sequence where Louis was saying yes to everyone - you can be sure that that was just a bunch of shots spliced together from the entire audtion process - not just limited to comments made during the Irish auditions. Also, it makes me laugh when Kate Thornton says something like: And once the judges said yes to one, they couldn't say no - cue a sequence of people being put through. It's total rubbish.

And I'm getting really bored with not being able to see or hear any of the ones that go through - the normal ones in other words. All we're seeing are the freaks! Gaaah! I know it's just a freak show, but I'm getting frustrated not being able to hear the really good ones.

Loving Sharon though.

I really liked the girl that was overweight, the newylwed, i thought she was really beautiful with a really ncie voice. But the Irish girl i thought was stunning with a not great voice.

That boyband won't last 5 minutes, i would ahve told that guy he wasn't through to the next line when Simon said you're better than the rest and he said "yes I know." *slap*

Did love Andy(?) dunagrees boy, he was just so sparkly.
The newlywed's were my brother and my sister in law Its nice to know that someone liked her, from what I've seen on some sites, many people didn't

And how Simon says the image is a problem, when he earmarked Michelle as being the fat winner of Pop Idol.

I think the problem is that to win, a contestant must have something DIFFERENT about them. Michelle was obese - that's pretty different in the UK pop market. This girl was chubby - and frankly that's all too common these days.

You can't say that someone has an image problem, and then when asked if it was because she was fat...say yes.

Ah but didn't you wonder if perhaps Simon asked that question not to point out that she won't win because of her image BUT to see what her response was?

(Dick Emery Honky Tonk character)You are awful...but i LIKE YOU!!!
Why does this style of program produce so many PITY candidates?
While we're on the subject,I must be the ONLY person left unmoved by Mrs "My husband stopped me,last chance, boo hoo" IMHHHHHO ....What a crock.
Firstly I don't buy the story, and secondly again just old PIV's opinion she was dreadful, bland bland and nothing special at all,I didn't see X factor ANYWHERE in her performance.
Honestly now, does anyone else share my opinion?
I can feel the flames already

No, you're not alone. Totally unmoved in this house by her too - thought she looked o.k. for a 49 year old, voice was o.k., personality was nil. Sob story left me feeling "so what??" Two major record deals turned down because of an overbearing husband - and she was so full of regrets and this was her "last chance"???? Pull the other one - it's got Clodagh Rodgers' platform clogs on.. ..........

I didnt like her voice either. She was nothing special and had no X factor whatsoever. I just hope that people will have learnt their lesson from the last series of Pop Idol and start to vote on ability rather than the fact they feel sorry for the person.
