Someone please help!

I bought an adpator to let me plug a big mic adpator into a small mic adaptor so it would be plug into the small mic socket on my £1000 mini dv camcorder.

I've just plugged it in and then gone to pull it out when I was finished, and the bloody adaptor has snapped and the end bit is stuck in the mic socket, its the end of like a headphone adaptor and it's in it's position but obviously the other end has snapped off and so there's nothing to pull it out with.

Any ideas?

Ohh errr....

If you are in any doubt about what I am about to post then leave it alone and get professional help!

If you are very lucky and don't have a phobia about screwdrivers you might be lucky and find that you can take the case apart and see the jack socket fairly easily. But be warned the screws used in these things tend to be very small and go AWOL all too easily

A lot of jack sockets have a very small hole in the back of the case or may even be totally open internally. If you are very carefull you may be able to gently push the offending bit out with a very fine screwdriver or stiff piece of wire.

Getting it out from the front may be more of a problem. Depends on exactly what bit snapped off. If you are very lucky (and carefull) you may be able to winkle it out with a bit of wire. Again if you are lucky it might be snapped off close to the edge of the socket in which case you may be able to bend what's left a bit and be able to grip it with a fine pair of tweezers or small pliers. Talking of tweezers/pliers. The tip contact of the jack has a pin like extension that goes up the centre of the connector insulated by a plastic sleeve. If this sleeve has come out with what you have in your hand you might be able to grip this pin wih tweezers/pliers and get it out that way.

Obviously you take the machine apart at your own risk, etc. etc. etc.

If it were me the screwdrivers would be out along with soldering iron and the whole socket would end up in the bin! Quick trip to Maplin and it would be back in service. Then again I get paid to rip bits of electronic kit to pieces and put them back together again

You could try pulling it out with some thin long-nosed pliers.

I would take it to a dealer.

It would be worth paying a service charge of say £40 to salvage a £1,000 piece of kit.

Might however be worth checking your house insurance to see if you have cover for breakages when you dropped it...

I've managed to get it out, i applied a minute amount of super glue onto the end that came out when it broke, and carefully inserterd it into the socket and pushed firmly into the bit stuck in there, left it to try and wala!

Thanks for the help guys
