Hi,
I need to run an optical cable behind plasterboard which is dot and dabbed onto a block wall, trouble is that whilst I have got a route through with an unterminated cable the " standard" style optical connector will not fit the gap which is about 11mm in the hole I have made. Bearing in mind this gap may not be 100% consistent over the whole cable run I need to source either a 3m cable with low profile connectors on or pull a cable through and terminate it afterwards, anyone know what is the cable with the slimmest optical connectors or whether the self terminated cable would be of sufficient quality for tv audio
Thanks in advance

Hi
I need to run an optical cable behind plasterboard wall the gap is max 11mm would anyone know what is the lowest profile toslink connectors on a made up lead 4m in length I.e. Slimmest or would I be able to achieve a satisfactory result by pulling an unterminated one and fitting the plugs on site after
Thanks in advance

Something like this is about the lowest profile you are likely to get

Don't think I have ever seen a plug on it's own. Not that sure I'd want to terminate an optical fibre cable anyway. It is a rather more difficult process than soldering a bit of wire to a pin in a plug. Having seen just how much trouble BT engineers have to go to to terminate fibre optic cables and the specialist kit they use I'm not sure it's something I'd fancy doing.

Given the potential cost and complexity of a DIY attempt to terminate optical cables I think I'd go a different way on this:

Either channel out the plasterboard, lay in the optical cable, then make good and replaster and redecorate... or

Convert optical to coax, then run a coax cable and put the phono end on to the bare wire after running it. Convert back to optical at the other end if required. Cost for the solution is probably less that £30 for DIY.
