Do you realise one of the CNET comparisons you linked to declares the iPhone 4S as the winner...

Really does ruin your argument...

I've had to reword almost every post where I've referred to iphone4s(plural) due to confusion. Maybe we should call them slightly less shiny iphones

I know it's better than the iPhone 4, and earlier iPhones.

In which ways is it better than the 4S?

Conclusion:

Alright, time to call a winner -- when we compared the iPhone 4 to the Samsung Galaxy S2, we found them to be equally desirable, with no clear winner. But with an ungraded processor, better camera and some new software, the iPhone 4S just edges it.

Winner: Apple iPhone 4S. But...

We reckon that for most people, the iPhone 4S is the better mobile. But Apple and Android fans alike should know that we're expecting Samsung to launch a brand-new mobile called the Nexus Prime in the very near future, which is rumoured to pack a 4.6-inch screen and an iPhone-trouncing display resolution of 720x1,184 pixels.

Moreover, the Nexus Prime will be the next Android flagship mobile, and is expected to come running Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest version of Android. So while Apple is on top for now, the fact that the iPhone 4S is a relatively minor upgrade means it could be overthrown before long. Stay tuned, gadgeteers.”

Doesn't seem so clear cut as "out- performs all other mobiles, in everything " and "No More Needs To Be said on this issue. "

It's worlds best spec wise but software wise its debatable. I love Android, but Touchwiz does the SGS2 no favours at all, and when you stack it up against a stock device like the Nexus Prime, that is where the SGS2 starts to fall down...

It is an incredible device though, and a stark reminder to Apple that the competition have caught them up and in some ways surpassed them...

cba to play phone top trumps right now but from memory, thickness and weight for a start. On board memory too I think. After that its a bit more subjective;being able to carry a spare battery means I can go a long weekend without a charger, memory cards can bump up online storage at a fraction of the cost, screens, cameras etc all comparable. The only thing the 4s has is Siri, which seems to be voice recognition for people that have never used it before, or don't wish to be shown a list of 'suitable commands'. (this is a good thing, but not significant for me personally). Otherwise seems to do what Google Voice Actions does. Much of a muchness. I'm sure most people will be happy with either, unless they're rabid fans/haters in which case the other option wasn't really a consideration.

At least the two of you have actually put some thought into your answers, unlike the OP

Spec. wise we don't know about the RAM, yet. Apple has bumped up the RAM with each generation bar the 3G. Would seem strange if it didn't bump up the RAM of the 4S from the 4's 512MB.

I'd be interested to see how Siri performs "in the real world", rather than on an Apple advert...

I have to wonder, not having owned any other Android devices, what exactly is so terrible about Touchwiz? I have no problems with the Samsung UI. What, other than "its terribad" are the complaints people have?

As I count down the months until I can get the phone, can you just give me your views on the music audio output.

The phone will be my primary music player and I read the other day that some are disappointed about how low the volume is. I travel to work on the London Underground and while I don't necessarily want my eardrums blown out, is the volume level enough to generally drown out other ambient noise - in comjunction with isolating headphones?

I have a Samsung Wave currently, which has sufficient volume levels so hoping it will be as good as that. Thanks.”

I'm a bit of an audiophile, I listen to my phone for 8hrs per day at work and for me its a major let down, music is the most important thing in a phone for me and it doesn't cut the mustard. At full volume its about half the volume of an iPhone, I use an app called Volume+ it boost the volume to about 3/4 of an iPhone but up full it distorts, I can clearly hear ambient noise using Sennheiser CX300 in ear headphones. If you Google Low Volume SGS2 you will see plenty of people with the same problem, if music is your main use I would not recommend this phone and have been trying to sell mine since for this reason.

It also has an annoying habit in that if you loss signal the music stops for no apparent reason, doesn't matter if its the radio, MP3's or whatever you listening to if you loss cell signal it turns of, again Google this.

The thing people overlook on the SGS2 is it might have the best hardware but the software really does let this phone down, this is where iOS wins every time, Software.

I just find the whole look of it so iOS copycat. They've turned Android into some tacky fisher price iPhone wannabe with that skin and it just brings the whole thing down.

I must prefer the stock Android or Sense UIs. Whilst they may not be as polished, they are distinctly different from iOS in their look and feel. Samsung added those disgusting square icons at the bottom of the screen and it just looks horrible. It's also horribly laggy at times, and some of their own self made apps just crash and freeze up. It's just a mess.

I just don't like it at all. It's the worst Android UI in my opinion, far worse than SE's timescape or MotoBLUR.

I have a SGS2 and after a month of putting up with Touchwiz I had to ditch it completely and root it with stock Gingerbread...

It's just horrible...I will think twice about buying a Samsung device because I just hate it. The Nexus Prime's stock Ice Cream Sandwich UI looks delicious on the other hand...

The S2 is around 6 months old now, and the iPhone 4s has only just been announced, so I think it will be fairer to compare the 4s to the Nexus Prime, HTC Vigor or the LG Optimus LTE, all due out in the next month or so. All three of these phones are a lot higher specced than the S2.

FOr me, the screen is the most important thing on a phone.
I even put that requirement above the CPU.

For the user considering the phone because of music use, you might want to check out some reviews of the HTC Sensation XE, which is being actively marketed as a music phone and comes with Beats by Dre headphones. It's not to my personal taste, but it certainly seems that one of the primary functions of that device is music.

Your being silly the 4s is a lot higher spec than the s2 is it?

The 4s can't compete with the s2 let alone the prime please stop embarrassing yourself

...but even then it was pretty evenly matched with the S2 winning individual categories such as screen performance and the eventual endorsement was itself conditional:

Winner: Apple iPhone 4S. But...

I think the 4S is fairly comparable to the GS2. I agree that the Nexus Prime will certainly out-spec it overall though.

Yes, but I think Roush's point was that one of the links the OP was using to support his various claims such as the GS2 "out- performs all other mobiles, in everything" actually said the 4S and GS2 were quite comparable, with the 4S just edging it "but..."

I don't think Roush was using the link to say "the 4S is the winnar!!!!", more to counter what the OP was trolling.

The only two things the iphone has going for it is The app system and OS user friendliness

*ugger. This would be a deal breaker for me. The music would be the main application I'd use and would be disappointed if I ended up experiencing what you've alluded to here. I use the same headphones and would expect reasonable success with blocking out other sound. My contract is up in May 2012, and I've never bought an iPhone (or any Apple product ever), so will have to consider what's within budget and available that suits my music needs. My heart was set on the Galaxy S2. I don't know anyone who has an SGS2 in order to test the issues myself - drat. Maybe CPW will let me demo....

I'm hoping the stopping of MP3 playback because you lose network signal is a glitch. How would you use it on the Tube / planes etc where there is no signal whatsoever?

Thanks to those who've provided the feedback.
