The battery life thing is again about choice and freedom that Apple doesn't provide you.

Its true that Android CAN flatten the battery very quickly, but it can also sip it slowly. Ive had my GS2 running for 3 days on one charge, will moderate use, but ive also flattened it in 6 hrs. It depends how you set it up. With iOS there is no choice, because it simply cant do the things android can. That's why the iPhone seems to be 'better' on its battery. iOS' theme is stability by limitation.

Android is a little harder to set up and tweak, but it lets you do the things you want. Its worth putting in the little effort it needs.

If you're willing to sacrifice thinness for extra battery life, check out the double thickness extended batteries on ebay. I get about 50% extra life now on my phone now and don't bother with 'energy saving' stuff like turning off my GPS/Wifi.

Of course this does not take into account usability which, if I am to read between the lines of CNETs conclusion, is squarely on the side of iOS because in the main, "most people" mean the people in the street who would never, ever delve under the bonnet. KISS very much comes into play.”

All I was doing was pointing out that it wasn't as clear cut as the OP's trollish statements of how the GS II "out- performs all other mobiles, in everything " and "No More Needs To Be said on this issue."

The GPU element is fast though, probably faster in many ways, BUT the Mali-400 in the GS2 is more than capable enough and has better multimedia options, if slightly lower frame rates in some games (its locked to 60 anyway, which it usually maxes out games at).

The camera in the 4S is a big upgrade, but there is little reason to suspect that it will be much better than the excellent camera in the GS2.

The iP4 screen is something i take issue with. High resolution is nice, but its too small and the wrong shape. It letterboxes movies (or worse, crops them), making the image either distorted, reduced, or really small.

With regard to the Nexus Prime, its specs arent that much over the GS2. I see no reason to suspect that the Ti OMAP CPU is faster than Exynos. The GPU is still to be determined. It may have the same one as the iP4S, in which case it will be faster, but will it suffer the same limitations in its multimedia playback? Maybe its an iOS issue. The screen however is better, and is making me think about swapping my GS2.”

I don't think the 4S loses for "the most part" to the GS II. In some ways (e.g. camera res.) they are the same, in some ways the GS II is better (CPU speed, screen size, possibly RAM) in others the 4S is better (screen resolution, GPU and some other areas*). Overall I think they're fairly even, and it depends upon what you want... Some want the specs of one, some want the specs of the other, some want the UI and apps of Android, some want the UI and apps of the 4S.

*[4S benchmarks at Anandtech - the 4S outperforms the GS II in GLBenchmark, SunSpider Javascript Benchmark, and Rightware BrowserMark. Ice Cream Sandwich should give the GS II a boost for the browser related benchmarks though]

I agree about the screen size, though. The higher resolution is lovely for a lot of things... but the size itself (& AR) is rather annoying when it comes to watching videos!

The Nexus Prime may not be that much over the GS II (still no official specs yet are there?), but the screen looks awesome. Size *and* resolution. One of the spec leaks I've seen said it will use the same GPU as the 4s / iPad 2 (PowerVR SGX543MP2), another said it will use something else...

I dont actually trust the Anand benchmarks and havent for a number of years, i got higher than they did on my GS2, but either way i call the GPU a draw because of the GS2s better movie support. I call the screen a win for the GS2, easily. Retina isnt all that.

Not a massive surprise. The iPhone 4 didn't win it last year when it was pretty new, so it was never going to win a year later. I'm not saying it would have won, but I presume the unreleased 4S wasn't in contention.

How could it be in contention for phone of the year when its not even been released? lol

Which is why I presumed it wasn't in contention. If the iPhone 4 didn't win the award last year, the same phone is never going to win it a year later.

Pretty sure the Anandtech benchmarking, as reported on the Computer and video games website (which reported it as 4S stomps on every Android) was done in terms of gaming performance which the GSII has never identified as being designed especially in mind of. 4S has a dual core GPU doesn't it. Nice hardware for gamers if that is why they buy it.
