Ipad or Laptop?
Dark Lady

I'm thinking of getting either a laptop or an iPad and wondered if anyone can give me advice about which is best?

I want to be able to store music on it; access the internet; do emails; cut & paste things into documents etc; store photos. Basically, much the same as I do with the PC.

I'd be grateful for any advice.
Thanks

If you want to do "much the same as I do with the PC" then an ipad probably wont be enough on its own .... likes of an asus eepad transformer might though if you get the optional keyboard dock as well?

Do you want to use in an armchair or on a bed (iPad), or at a desk or table (laptop)?

Do you prefer a touchscreen and virtual keyboard operation (iPad), or mouse and keyboard (laptop)?

Are you happy with only being able to run one program at a time (iPad), or do you want to be able to switch rapidly between running programs (laptop)?

Do you plan to use Word, Excel, Access or their equivalents? If so, you'll need a laptop.

Do you want to be able to connect an external hard disk, optical disk drive (CD/DVD), and/or USB memory key? If so, you'll need a laptop.

Are you ok with using iTunes, or do you dislike it to the point of disgust? If like many people you can't abide iTunes then you'll probably want to avoid an iPad.

If you don't like the idea of having to replace the entire device when the battery no longer holds its charge, then you'll want to avoid an iPad.

Some of the above points against the iPad don't apply with Android tablets, but for the same quality of tablet device you'll be unlikely to find one cheaper than the iPad.

If you sue a PC to its potential them a tablet will not cut the mustard for a good while yet.

Thanks for the help, especially John for the clear and easy advice. That was good of you to do that.

There aren't apps for that? That's a pretty big failing for a semi-business device . Still I guess Google Docs works OK on it?
